Yeah pretty crazy event going out there. People are evacuated to Qualcom (sp?) stadium similar to what happen in Lousiana.
Any idea what elevation that picture was taken from (the one from directly overhead?

As of this morning pacific time 0500 Interstate 5 and 15 are both closed in both directions. Qual com stadium now holds 10K people and they are requesting nurses and doctors and volunteers to help. smoke injuries esp those with lung, cardiac or respiratory pre existing problems need to be seen by an MD/RN. Shelter in place until told to leave. Mandatory evacs are confusing. These fires continue to be dangerous and winds are expected to increase as the day warms up. Be careful make good decisions. We are with you

extend that prayer
Why dont we extent that prayer to all the folks in so cal. I myself am surrounded by these damn things. Im in Trabuco Canyon (orange county) and its closing fast. I assume if these things dont turn around asap, I will evac within 24 hours.
Granted SD got slammed but many other counties are "Feeling the heat".

My thoughts and prayers go out to all of those affected. The pictures shown on TV are just devastating. I actually went on vacation to San Diego this past summer and it is a beautiful city. What a shame.

Living in Arrowhead I've been off the mountain, with almost everyone living up there, since Monday night. Not even the news reporters are allowed anywhere near the fire so nobody but the firefighters know what is going on. Last I heard the fire was within two blocks of my house (near the golf course), the answering machine is still working so thats a good sign. Good luck to all effected.

And now they think that some of the fires were arson.... What kind of idiot would do that to other people?
I've checked with some friends that live in the area -- none have lost their houses, but one had to evacuate, another has friends who lost their homes. And lots of heartbreaking stories on the news.

My daughter and her husband in La Mesa tell me that this is the greatest movement of people since the civil war. One cannot be grateful without being moved by the loss of life. Man o Man. Last year we made emergency packs to be carried in all our cars. This time they were ready to evac and the emergency supplies were in the back of the 4Runner. cost about $400.00 for a good 5 day emergency pack but man it was worth it for me at least.....

Cali is on fire every year and most people shouldn't be surprised but it seems if you live near a large forest area a fire will eventually get you.

This is true but its often 1 or 2 fires at any given time but this time at the height it hit 18 fires tuesday (that does not include several fires in Baja California). There are still 10 fires today. This is of historical proportions. Winds were clocked in some areas at 90 - 111 mph. (that is sustained winds, yes hurricane level)

As mentioned, that picture is from a satelite in space.

Yup I'm putting together a BOB (Bug Out Bag) for the house and a smaller one in the truck in case I ever need it. Hope to never need it, but it's there in case I do.
