Are rubber inserts for crossbars useful?

Helllo, everyone:

I just got a new 2007 4Runner SR5. Since the dealer did not install crossbars and just left them in the trunk, I installed crossbars myself.

The installation was fine. But I forgot to install those 4 rubber inserts? Are they important? Where should those rubber inserts be installed?

Anyway, if I need to put them in, I have to remove rail caps. I searched this forum and it seems removing rail caps is a little tricky. I am afraid I will break it. Any suggestions?
