I wish we had tow hooks
Others trucks have them . I helped some people pull out a car tonite that went off the road an was high centered. There was 3 of us figuring out who was going to pull them out , an S-10 Blazer , Tahoe ( old style 04-06 ) and myself in the 4R , the 2 Chevys had factory , but nice hooks on the front.

Sorry, no, no they don't.
We have tie down loops. These are a welded item and have been discussed in other threads. I personally would not use these as a tow point to jerk someone that is stuck plus they are small. I would prefer a proper tow hook (I smell a mod coming up.)

Another nod to the Runner getting further away from it's off road roots.

First off, when possible, always tow from the rear, either from rear tow hook or tow hitch. Backing up to get someone out may result in major issues with the front differential.
Secondly, i think that you guys are discounting too much on the front hooks. Are they not bolted/welded to the frame?? I can't remember clearly but my '02 4runner (3rd gen) tow hook was not much different than the 4th gen. So, i don't think that Toyota has changed the tow hook(s) from 3rd gen to 4th gen.
RonM, is your tow hook different than 4th gen???
Falls, i doubt that your American counterparts have any stronger hooks in front.

Actually I don't know but I do have a real hook on the right side and a loop on the other but I'm installing a hook on the left side in spring just incase I need it.
Anybody have good pics of the 4th gens hook?

Why so much negativity about the current/next generation 4Runners? This is probably about the 50th post I've read where you mention that the 4Runner is becoming a grocery-getter.
So what if the rear diff lock is gone....and the ground clearance is a bit lower..... the 4Runner is still leagues ahead of other SUVs when it comes to offroad ability. My friend's Chevy Trailblazer has two nice factory tow hooks up front, but it's a POS when it comes to offroading.
BTW, does the 3rd gen 4Runner have factory tow hooks up front? What about the 1st and 2nd generations? At what point do you think Toyota started building 4Runners that are getting further away from its "offroad roots"?

First off I didn't say were stronger. Second , just wish there was some on the 4R. Those loops make me nervous and isn't the rear loop the same as the front ? My truck is outside and it's cold and dark so I'm not going to look.
The guy who yanked them right out ( in reverse ) was the S10 Blazer ( flashback........yikes)

Ron doesn't pass up many chances to dig at 4th gens or BFG KO tires. It's just Ron being Ron.

4th generation , but still quite a capable off roader and personally feel like it's a little tank and solid off road performer. ( although to narrow and to low in my opinion)
It would make a diff. to me if the next gen. was lower , and less off road worthy. I would not buy one if more electronic ( help me drive a 4x4 , because I don't know how ) devices are on it . The 4th gen. already has to much of that crap with the VSC and such.
As for the record , 3rd gen's have always been my favorite. Best stance of any of the gen's.
