Gas mileage with the VVti V8 engine
I had a 2004 V8 AWD SE and it got avg. 17 mpg city and around 19-20 on the highway (calculated by hand, not the car computer). My 2007 V8 AWD limited with around 8K miles gets 14 1/2 to 15 mpg and that is combined city and highway. I burned regular in the 2004 and im also burning regular in the 2007. Since the 2007 has the newer VVti would it get better gas mileage burning premium? Since the cost difference between regular and premium is only 20 cents and gas is around $3.00 per gallon I would only need to pick up 1 mpg using premuim to break even and anything above that would be a plus. Also figure performance would be improved with premium? What have you guys found?

I get 18-20 in the summer and 16-18 in the winter in my '07 V8 (mostly highway). Ive only used 87 octane. I should experiment to see what the break even point would be with 89 or 93.

I can't speak for the V8, but the V6 VVTI engine runs fine on regular octane gas. Premium really gives no observable benefit, and I usually see the same mpg or slightly worse with premium vs regular.

There will not be any noticeable difference in gas mileage using premium fuel, I use Shell (Top Tier) regular.

Got a 07 V8 Limited. I get 14.8 mpg on the car computer. BTW, don't know what impact Borla, Volant Intake and added weight of the Jaos stuff and Yakima Loadwarrior has.

Ok, so the first tank of gas was courtsey of the dealer, and I know they use 87. I was only getting 14 average. This 2nd fill up was out of my wallet & I put in 92. I just checked it tonight, I'm up to 19 with an average of 18.
I know people say it doesn't make a difference. And I understand that, but I see a difference. I may just use 89 in the future to help with the budget, but for now, unless I'm really broke, I'm not putting in 87. I'll stop using the more expensive gas when I don't see a change. I don't know if the previous owner was driving it like a granny, and it just needed a young'un to floor it once or twice (Ok I've floored more times than that), to blow the carbon out of it.

I think vvti v8 is only on the 2005+ models, but i'm curious to see if you consistently get better results with the stuff above the 87. Your not reading the computer mpg ratings right?

Your correct, it's not a vvti.
Looking at both the computer stats and by my own calculations. Getting better gas mileage on this tank than I did on whatever I left the dealership with. I'll be filling up next time with 89, and probably just sticking with that.

Wow, a 5 MPG increase with premium. You must send those results to the oil companies, they can use it in their advertising.

Grandma:
91 octane: 18 city 21 hwy (65mph or less)
Normal moderate footed:
91 Octane: 16-17 city 19 hwy (up to 75mph)... 22.5 following semis
Heavy footed:
91 octane: 14-16 city 17 hwy
remote starting the car all the time and waiting 13 minutes for it to get warm inside and driving heavy footed:
91 octane: 12-14 city ... but it's nice and warm when I get to it!!! <<<--- and that's what I used to get ALL the time out of my 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee V8.
2007 VVti V8 here.

06 V8 Full time 4wd with 38k miles , upsized tires to 265.70/17 Revos
Summer blend fuel 87 oct. ( Mobile )
16-17 city/rural 19-20 hiway
Winter blend fuel 87 oct. ( Mobile )
15-16 city/rural 19-20 hiway
Runs great on 87 and use the same station for gas 99% of the time.
All my calculations are made manually and the benefit of having larger tires with miles actually traveled are not added into the total milage , so it would be slightly higher.
Must add my on board comp. matches my milage calculations pretty damn close.
