Hidden Hitch vs Factory Installed Hitch, what's the diff?
Hey Folks,
Is there a difference between a hidden hitch and the factory installed hitch on our 4runners?
Someone told me the hidden Hitch was better? I Don't really see how.

I cant really address the factory hitch as I have the Hidden Hitch 70411. It is my understanding that the factory V6 hitch only bolts to the left and right frame members. I further understand that the factory V8 hitch mounts to these members as well as the center member. The 70411 bolts to all three members and provides a higher rating, I believe. Hope this helps.

Here's some hitch stuff that you may not look at if you searched based on the title.
One advantage of the HiddenHitch, IMHO, is that if rear ended by a low bumper car it may help a bit...
I think either one is good and it's a matter of preference.

Just wish that Hidden Hitch still made the 70411. Can't seem to locate one anywhere.

My 70779 purchased in Oct '07 carries a sticker that says 600/6000lbs (dead weight) and 7300 w/wdh. http://www.toyota-4runner.org/showth...threadid=35954

The factory V6 hitch is mounted to the rear most cross member only. HiddenHitch 70411 (now discontinued) and 70779 both mount to frame rails, similar to the factory V8 hitch. The 70411 also has a mounting point for in the center of the rear most cross member. I probably won't tow anything. I added the hitch so I can mount accessories to it (bike and/or ski/snowboard rack).
