Yo man you should announce your sell on www.yotatech.com as well. Those are the more serious hardcore off-roaders, I bet you would sell it quick on there. They've got a sub-forum called the marketplace, you should put it in there...

What makes you think it's not going to make it on road trips to and from college? 103,000 miles on a Toyota? It's practically new!

For what it's worth, I drove a 93 Jeep Grand Cherokee back and forth to college. It had 185,000 miles on it, it was paid off, and it took care of me (was in Albany NY, 4WD came in handy). Looking back on it I wouldn't have had it any other way, I didn't really worry about people banging it around, it was great for hauling kegs back to and from house parties and I could load all my crap up at the end of the semester/ year and take it home. At the time though gas was much cheaper than the $3.00 avg price now...

I dont understand your (or your dad's) thought process at all. Why would you choose to be in a less reliable, less fuel efficient car for a long college commute? Why change at all if you already have a car that is working for you and I assume is paid for? Liek someone else said, your 4R is just getting broken in.

I have a son that will be going to college in about 3 years. It is fairly likely he may get my '06 T4R and it will have at least 100,000 miles on it by then. If it was up to him, his choice would be to have it. I will likely though get him something a bit more frugal on gas. Only time will tell what I do...but I still don't understand your situation.

I have to agree, I hope I don't come off as being a jerk or anything. I just don't understand why you would trade a toyota for a chevy. You didn't mention the year of the chevy but you said it would be older, so I just don't understand why change cars at all.

Makes no sence to me to me either. Sounds like "just want something different" (big mistake)

Your T4R isn't half way old yet! Keep it going! When I read it I was like, hmm an older car...
1967 GTO? I could understand the trade there. But when I read Tahoe, I was like WTF! Stop what you are doing and slap youself!

you people are missing the bigger picture... in four years time, he'll have had three cars. new or old, they're all paid for. $$$ isn't an object here.

anyway, the Tahoe is a nice truck but you're gonna get slaughtered at the pumps with that thing. i drive my future father in-law's Suburban from time to time and i like it. the engine's got some balls to it but it handles and feels like it looks, big.

personally, i'd probably stick with the T4R but obviously your mind is made up, so good luck with the new whip.

I think your Dad needs to talk to a few Tahoe owners I know then he may see the flaws in his logic in this situation.
All the Tahoe owners I know talk constantly about fuel mileage and how maintenance (tires, brakes, etc.) is a constant PITA and wallet.
A few of them also have less than kind words to say about nagging problems and reliability.
My advice is to make sure there are Chevy dealers close by both your home and school as you might need them.

Hey, if money is not an issue (even though Dad may also be paying for school) then do what he wants.
I do agree with others here that your 4Runner (at about 100K miles) is far from having one tire in the grave unless it has issues you are not mentioning.
There is something to be said about keeping a vehicle you know over getting a different one that you do not.

BTW, if the Tahoe starts giving you trouble, is Dad willing and able to replace it with something else in a year or two?
Will he loan you one of his vehicles to go back to school with while the Tahoe is getting fixed at home if it breaks down?
If the answers to both of these questions is No, then why risk getting a different vehicle?

If your going to get a new vehicle, get a super fuel efficient, low maintenance used car like a honda or toyota. Your going to be in college, so perhaps the fundage is going to be running on the short side for a few years.

Your going to end up spending more money in repairs on your Tahoe than you would a 4Runner, plus whenever you sell, your almost always giving back equity (losing more money).

This is looks? And this is after a 6" Lift.

Dont get me wrong, its not a bad looking vehicle, but the T4r over does it in about every category. There must be something else at play here.
