Wink New Purchase Details

I purchased a 2008 Blizzard Pearl Urban Runner Sport this weekend after many months of reading this and other forums. I thought I would post the details of my deal cause I would have found this helpful when I was looking.

Purchase price (after $1,500 rebate) = $31,500 not including taxes, doc fee, registration.

My sense was that I could've done better, as they agreed to my price way too easy. If I had to do it over again I would have gone for at least another $500 lower. I was impatient and wanted to drive away in the vehicle that day.

I was going to take the 2.9% for 60 months in lieu of the rebate but the dealer offered 4.9% thru another bank (Chase) to get me to the same payment with the rebate.

Was planning on getting Black but fell in love with the Blizzard Pearl. Never thought I would ever own a white car but this paint is really neat when you see it in person. The dealer had a black one that was dirty and it really shows the filth. It does cost $200 or so more than the black.

Congrats on the purchase! Just got the same truck, same color for my wife a couple weeks ago. Truck seems pretty solid other than the Tom Tom locked up on me this weekend and I needed to reformat the SD card and re-install everything. Downloading the 800+ map file now as I type. Do yourself a favor and prevent a headache and backup your SD card asap. My dumbass didn't thinking I would be ok to wait a few weeks and low and behold I'm kicking myself now.

TomTom

Thanks for the tip on backing up. I would probably have procrastinated on figuring out how to back the Tom Tom up. I think I will get on it tonight.

I actually was not able to have the Tom Tom when I picked the car up on Sunday. The dealer had some units stolen so they locked 'em all up in the Parts dept and they don't work on Sunday. That was a bummer. So I went over to the dealer today and picked the TomTom unit up this morning. The unit accurately got me from the dealership to my office. So far, so good!

Install the software supplied with it and connect your TomTom to your PC and click the Backup button in the software. Or you could just connect your TomTom to your PC and the unit will show as an external drive and just make a new folder on your hard drive and just copy everything from you TomTom to your PC.
This ordeal of my maps going MIA ended up being a 3 day process and I could not getTomTom to find the maps even when reloaded. Numerous calls to TomTom go t me no where. After doing a little research and putting one and one together I finally figured out that they uploaded the wrong version of the map that was not compatible with the version software loaded on the TomTom for the Toyota. I called TomTom and had them upload the correct version for me and now all is well again. Pretty bad that I had to figure it out on my own though.

Yea i have a strong feeling that if I had problems with it at the dealership, then they would not know how at all to fix it since its under warranty. I guess it will save me a whole lot of time and trouble if i backed it up myself.

HeHe, your probably right. After getting no where with the people at TomTom I called the service guy and asked him about swapping the unit out and his response was "What's a TomTom?" Followed by "These things come in our cars?" At that point I figured I would do some more digging before going that route. Glad I did as it was probably a lot less painful researching the crap out of it myself rather than him staring at the unit wondering what it was.:chair:

neoflex,

you will get a kick out of this story. When I got my new truck last month, I decided to put a destination into my TomTom. Well I never went to that destination....just playing with the Tom Tom in the driveway. Well I COULD NOT find the "clear route" button in it. I had set it to go to the beach house which was 4 hours away too. Well for weeks I had to hear that dang thing telling me to turn around b/c the dealership had no idea how to get it to shut up. I told the dealership my Tom Tom was an Idiot Idiot. I was about to put my fist through that thing. After 2 weeks and 60 hours of searching, I found out that the Tom Tom comes factory in "safety mode" with it in that, you cannot clear a route. Turn the safety mode off and you can clear a route! If anyone gets one new please read this post. I about threw my Tom Tom out the window to get the thing to shut up!!!

So that's how you do it! Fortunately my subdivision is too new to be on the map so I set Home while sitting in my driveway. Anytime I need to clear out the destination I just tell it to give me directions to home and it can't and that ends up clearing it out. Thanks for the tip. Chances are I will be in the garage in 10 minutes fooling with the damn thing.
Overall I am happy with the unit. I just wish the screen was a little bit larger like some of the other TomTom units but I guess it would take up more space than a double din opening. Just make sure you guys back the thing up. It will save you a lot of time and headaches. The map alone is a 897megabyte download.

Yea that thing would not shut up unless you went to your destination!!

The manual doesnt tell you how to clear it either! Just go in the meun and take it off safety mode and then it will give you the option to clear route.

I do have one last question......how can you check for new maps? Are there free downloads on the Tom Tom website?
