Gone from 3rd Gen to 4th Gen, Thoughts?

Has anyone gone from a 3rd Gen 4Runner to a 4th Gen 4Runner? If so, what are your thoughts? What do like more about the 4th gen or less. I have a 3rd gen now and love it but always thought my next car would just be another 4Runner, maybe 4th or even 5th gen by that time.

4th gens do have more power-same mpgs ,are a bit more comfortable and of course are a bit more modernized so everything should be a step up.

The only down is if you had a 5 speed or a rear locker those are gone in '01 and the 3rd gens have a bit more off road prowess in stock trim and are a bit skinnier for those tight trails but otherwise the 4ths are a solid step up.

5th gens? They could even be further from their off road roots but we'll have to wait and see.

RonMAIDEN statements all true.
Yup went from a 97 Limited to an 07 Limited V8.
The 3G ride was harsh. Not that I minded that , but the truck was originally bought for my wife. She hated the way it rode. So I inherited it. Very simplistic interior. Dependable as hell! Never had a problem with it. Had rear locker, So I will miss that.
I went to look at trucks with no intention of buying a truck. Low and behold I ended up with an 07 Limited. Too bad I didnt know I was gonna buy. Had some mods that I could have sold.

I'm not so sure about the AWD on the 4G V8. I would rather have it 2x4 and switch it when I need it. I havent had my 4G long enough to see a snow or any bad weather, so I cannot comment on its performance there.

The new 4G runner:
  • Much more agrressive looking | Projector beams | LED Tail |
  • More luxury | Heated seats | Heated Mirrors | NAV | Homelink |
  • The ride is really nice. Interior is well laid out. Comfortable
  • Can you say V8! ??
  • Stock horn - Way better than 3G
4G DISLIKES
  • No real cup holders for rear passengers.
  • Fat A-Pillars - I'll get used to them.
  • Wacky ReCirc Button - WTF - Why would I want to recirc hot air?
  • Rear window remote - should make window go up.
  • All window should autodown/autoup.
  • No mirror memory! / Tilt mirrors when reversing (Both reserved for Lexus)

I did love my old truck. Gave me many years of great service. I'm sure I will have this one for at least 10 years as well.
I'm sure I'll think of other things after I post. LOL.

i have... I just got my 04 and am currently selling my 3rd gen (see sig)

THINGS I LOVE ABOUT MY 4TH GEN

-THE POWER!!!
-TIMING CHAIN!!! no more having to worry about a timing belt
-Overall design interior and exterior
-Seating is more supportive and comfortable
-The endless amount of compartments
-More refined drive, smoother transmission

THINGS MY 3RD GEN that i wish were in my third gen
-my 3rd gen had 3 power outlets in the front stock, 4th gen only 1
-my 3rd gen had auto up/down for driver and pass., 4th gen only driver side
-my 3rd gen had power moonroof w/ NO rattle, i opted for a 4th gen w/out a moonroof to avoid the potentially $$$ repair since it is only under warranty for 36k

if i could afford to keep both i would... but if i had to choose i would still choose the 4th gen because after driving around my 4th gen for a month now the interior of my 3rd is starting to look dated and bland...

2004 4Runner SR5
-TRD FJ Cruiser Wheels on BFG A/T 265/70R16
-Full Time 12v power
-Homemade "Homelink"
-3" Toytec Front Spacer, Rear is untouched for now...
-"Blacked Out" Bumper Centers
