Getting ready to pull the trigger on Ltd V8/AWD - Final price check!
Howdy Folks!
I see SET has a car that will be available next week (we'd probably buy through our local folks at Lighthouse Toyota) that's exactly what we want:
'08 4Runner Limited V8 AWD
Shadow Mica
Stone Leather
JBL/Nav/Camera
X-REAS
Moonroof
[etc]
Car lists for ~$43K, the "our price" on their website shows a price of $39.7K
Now I *thought* that the 60 @ 0% was available with the $4K cash back. I've been told otherwise by Lighthouse.
We can (I'm assuming a couple of numbers here) take the $4K, apply it back and with a (which we should be able to get) 3.9%, thats ~$3,200 in interest over 60mos, payment of $578.
Or don't take the $4K, get the 0% and have a $591 but wind up not paying anything for the money. It almost seems to balance out (I'm sure there's some financial logic behind one vs. the other).
Anyway, just thinking out loud about that...my real question is:
Has anyone managed to combine the 0% and $4K cashback deals? Should be expect at least another $2k-$4K off the $39K?
I mean, these 2008 models seem to be piling up, the T4R sales are down over 50% (also Sequoias).
Side note: we had originally wanted black but I never see any black Limited V8/AWD (or even V6) come through this area. They seem to get quite a few Sport models [in black] through. Weird.
I finally saw some good pics of Shadow Mica from a member here and it looks fantastic! Way more metallic that I had previously thought! Reminds me of my Supra that was painted in Graphite Grey Pearl (Lexus).

I think the 39.7 sound high. But who know what is being included in the [Etc.] row you list. You s/b able to get $38k for sure and perhaps better. And no I havent heard of anyone able to combine the $4k rebate and the 0% financing. I would take the $4k and look elsewhere for financing if really needed.
One way to know for sure what the best price you can get is to key all the options and associated amounts into the spreadsheet available on my site at Here, then post the results. You should be able to offer well below true dealer cost since it is an 08 sitting on the lot for who knows how long already and the 09's are already in stock. Good Luck.

i'm not into buying new cars esp reliable commuter cars like the 4runner.
i bought my 03 4x4 v8 limited with all sorts of electronic goodies added with 18" sport wheels, 65k miles, mint condition, one owner for.. less than $16K.

Always take the $ over the rate. Lets say aliens beam your new ride back to the home planet. The 4k came off the price already. The 0% is over the lifetime, so it didn't do you any good.
Good time to be a buyer!

If you plan on keeping the vehicle for a long time (>5yrs) go with the lower rate. If you plan on only keeping it for a year or two, take the rebate.
Just my $.02. But hey, what do I know?

Thanks for the posts everyone - some good feedback. Also big thanks to ExJeeper for posting some pics! All the dealer/Toyota pics of Shadow Mica don't do it any kind of justice.
@thetaxguy That makes complete sense - short term better return and less cost (for a 2-3 ownership) vs. long term.
Totally unrelated to cost/financing:
When we were shopping for a black 4R, we were both pretty confident we wanted a tab/beige/taupe interior, but since so much of the interior trim is silver, we *think* that the stone (gray) interior would work better.
I'm assuming that on a limited the trim is all the same regardless of the leather color? I think if all the silver interior trim were black or graphite, the beige leather would look pretty swell.
Comments?

Cool, thanks again folks - going to the dealer tomorrow to chat them up, see how the numbers shake down!
I'll post a followup (I'd say I'd post pics of the new ride but that's jumping the gun a little )

For a sticker price of $43K, you should be able to deal around $38K before any rebates are applied. $39.7K is too high.

Bought it!!
Got a better price, a premo deal on our trade and took the 0%
It's not actually HERE yet - we drove their X5 home, and our T4R will be here on Monday or Tuesday (scheduled for the 30th but they're going to get it here quicker).
So we are now an **official** T4R member
As soon as we get it home, lots of pics! Bikini shots of the wife washing it! Etc, etc.!!

Dang, I've got to get my parlance correct!
Since the V8's 4WD can't be switched into 2WD mode, doesn't that also make AWD?
I'm kind of extra stoked about this - I mean our 4.4i X5 was a pretty sweet ride, but the T4R feels more like it "clicks" with us, plus I've been a huge fan of Toyota (had a GS300 and a 4th Gen Supra).
Starting to shop some accesories! Woot!

Yeah, the allocations of color/trim/engine/drive seem to skip a few common combos, but they seem to be building a ton so I'm sure something will eventually come through the channel.
Great to hear that the SM color is that awesome (and worth tracking down).
