12V power outlets

I have an 07 SR5 and my power outlets in the center console and in the rear cargo area are not working. I checked the fuse but it was good, so that's not the problem. Has anybody had any problems with their 12V power outlets? Any suggestions on what may be wrong?

As someone else has stated, was the ignition on? If so then did you have anything installed by the dealer or an aftermarket shop? It is possible they didn't plug in the harness behind the cigarette adapter.

Yes. The key was in the ignition and the car was turned on. I did not have anything installed aftermarket except my spoiler.

The 12v power outlet had worked before when I had a cell phone charger hooked into to it. But then it didn't work anymore, i assumed it was the cell phone car charger that broke. I had never used the rear power outlet for anything before. I'm wondering if the cell phone charger could have caused damage. Any help anyone?

Try a volt meter and see if you get 12~14 V.

It could be the device you are trying to use. Sometimes there is an inline fuse in the device. (Just something to check). If the fuse (in the car) you are saying for the 12V adapters is fine then it is the circuit somewhere. With both power outlets not working, maybe there is another harness somewhere, but you really would have to follow all the wiring to see where the break in the circuit is. W/o looking you won't be able to see where the wires are not connected.

It would be the same has having a light bulb pugged into an extension cord plugged into a power strip plugged into the wall. If you are certain it isn't the light bulb somewhere something isn't plugged in or the circuit breaker is out. You will have to bite the bullet and follow the wires.

When you say you checked the fuse, which fuses did you check? And how did you check them? Unless they redesigned the circuit, there are actually two fuses for the power outlets. One for the relay coil, which is powered when the truck is on, and the other fuse for the outlet power, which should have power at all times. You may want to double check them. Use a meter on both sides of the fuse contacts. Or if you don't have a meter, simply replace them, regardless if they look good or not. It's not always obvious when they blow. Fuses are cheap.

Otherwise, you can also check the relay. However as new as your truck is, I highly doubt there's a fault with the relay. There could also be a problem with the coil ground, however again, as new as your truck is, I doubt it.

If you have any interest in it, this may be a good time to do the "full time power at the power outlets" mod.
