Parking brake - loud clacking noise

So silly me I forgot to release the parking brake... I drive off and as I get onto the on-ramp after say driving .3 miles, I hear this really loud CLACK CLACK CLACK noise.

I pull over thinking oh sh!t but realized my parking brake's on.

I release the pedal and drive off and silence. Everything seems to work fine.

Now when I put on the parking brakes during movement it makes the clacking noise upon application, but resumes silence once engaged.

Is this noise normal or did I "brake" something?

What kind of movement are we talking about?

I drove with mine on this Summer. Sounded like it exploded. Still held at the boat ramp though! Had it looked at and the guess was the noise was the spring releasing.

yea man i was in an I-5 tunnel here and it was so loud i thought it was the semi truck next to me only to realize it's my little 4runner.

say you're driving at 10mph, begin to apply the parking brake... you'll hear a clack noise when you press the pedal down coming from the rear.

Why are you applying it when moving? I live it flatsville and only use it when retrieving a boat.

You kids! Having said that I had the family with me for some powerslides over the ice yesterday. Center locked and give it gas on every turn. Hard to do it like the old days because of FT 4wd. Old days was me in a Plymouth Fury growing up in Michigan. Talk about sliding. I've never used the parking brake for that though. Gas only.
