heater blower motor

the heat will not blow when the truck is cold, what I mean is the blower will not turn on. if you leave the truck in heated garage for a day, it will work until you park the truck outside again. took it to dealer and they want to replace the whole blower motor. anyone does this? how difficult to change that? not familar at all with 4th gen stuff? It has nothing to do with the auto on feature of the truck we have that off. seems like it is happening when it is below zero stuff..

Hello 1974 FJ40,

It could be an ice/snow build up on the blower motor itself.

There was a Technical Service Bulletin issued by Toyota for this very problem:

Component Description:
1. EQUIPMENT:ELECTRICAL:AIR CONDITIONER Bulletin Number: 00207
Bulletin Date: MAY 2007

Vehicle: 2003 Toyota 4Runner
Summary:
HVAC BLOWER MOTOR ICE BUILD UP. ( NHTSA ITEM NUMBER - 10021712 )

Toyota will install (at no charge to you) a protective shield over your blower motor to prevent ice/snow from building up on the motor.

Hope this helps.
