Leaking valve cover gasket and dealer response

I recently noticed a small leak on one of my valve cover gaskets. Since I have about a year left on my warranty, I took it in to the dealer to get it replaced. I showed them the leak and left it with them. About 2 hours later I get a call that they "can't find a leak anywhere". I had to take another trip down there to point it out again to the tech.

The tech told me "We consider that seapage, and seapage is not covered under your warranty". Nice try dimwit! Good way for Toyota to reduce their warranty costs??? I told him to replace the gasket. They didn't argue much and actually replaced both sides. How stupid is that?? I asked the tech if that leak would be accectable on his personal vehicle and he said, "no, it wouldn't"

I guess most people just accept it??

Which dealer did you go to? If you need a dealer that is willing to work with you better, PM me, I have a contact at a local Toyota dealer.

My Toyota Dealer had us in for a finger food and service Dept. sales pitch one evening a few Months ago, the guy giving the tour of the service Dept said he was one of the service writers we would be dealing with, he told everyone they the service writers. were on commission.

WoW!! I could hardly believe my ears on that admission. You should have seen the others peoples eyes rolling.

I for one will not be visiting their service Dept.

Good for you getting that fixed.

LOL - I looked up the word 'seepage' (correct spelling - not 'seapage') in my Oxford dictionary: it means exactly the same thing as leakage!

So when you're engine starts sputtering, be ready when your technician can't find any 'minor hiccups'.

It sounds rediculous but that's how Toyota Canada's policy is as well. For example, if your struts are sweating (seeping) but not dripping or wet then it's considered normal. Canada for instances, many provinces get extremely cold in the winter therefore it's normal to have some fluid "weep" past the seals. After it warms up it works normally as designed. In the end, for some people with their warranties near expiration it can be frustrating and some dealers won't even try to help. So you're lucky in most cases they changed it for you!
