Auto dimming mirror/compass

Hey all, just noticed this evening on my way home from work that the compass in the rearview mirror was changing brightness on me. wasn't sure if this was normal or not and the mirror was installed at the factory just for the record. would like to know if this does it on other 4runners. also it doesn't seem to matter if the lights are on/off/ or on auto. thanks in advance!

It's normal. It adjusts brightness according to the ambient light from the front and rear.

Okay cool. I've had this truck for a long while now anf to be honest this is the first time I've noticed it. it kinda freaked me out when I saw it changing. I automatically thought that there was a short somewhere. glad to hear that it is in fact normal. thanks again for the insight!
