4runner stolen

Hi everyone. My 03 ltd v8 got stollen off my driveway. It had a full tank of gas and the police found it run dry. Lots of minor damage and cosmedic damage. My question is what should I look for mechanically when I get it back? Anyone with any advise would be great! I really don't want this truck back as I have no idea what it has been threw but know I will be getting it back.

Interesting name, irregardless drive it and see how it feels. Most likely it is completely fine.

How was it stolen? Did you leave the keys in it? I really have no idea how someone could steal it with the engine immobilizer. Did they break the glass, how did they get in it and how did they start it?

That sucks!

The good news, if there is any, is that the T4R's computer protects it from all kinds of drivetrain abuse. The suspension, brakes and trans (to some degree) could be used hard. If it were mine I'd look at the frame and fenders for indications of Bo & Luke Duke style jumping. If it looks like it had been through deep water I'd do a axle/t-case fluid change. I might change the trans fluid on principle as it's easy on a '03.

The final thing I'd do is get insurance to buy you a real, first class bodyshop style interior/exterior detail; the $200-$300 kind of detail.

truth is all these immobilizer schemes don't seem to have stopped the car thefts

sure runs up the price to have a key made or make the keyless remote work

how far did they drive and get back in one night to burn an entire tank of gas? Assuming it was taken late at night/early morning and abandoned within a few hours - they must have been doing some hi speeds...

Definitely have insurance pay out for a complete review!

Sorry to hear

That sux, when I first got my girl (4 days off the lot brand new - less than 100mi) some jerk off keyed the entire hood and driver side! Fortunately insurance covered it, but I was so sad...
