Question Has anyone painted the silver parts of the 4th gen bumpers?

Unless your truck is silver, there are little silver covers on the front and rear bumpers on the 4th gen. Has anyone ever paited these to color match the rest of the truck? Any pics?

When I get mine in black, I'm thinking these silver areas would bother me, especially in the back. I'm thinking all black would look good. I'm already getting SR5 to make sure the luggage rack is black, not silver.

I like the silver, constrasts the rest of the truck and makes those areas stick out and look nice.

But if you like it black, paint it black I guess, don't think it would be that expensive...

Wink

I can see "contrast" point with the one in the front. Looks like a fake skid plate. But the one in the black just looks like a "cheapo" plastic cover to me.

Maybe I'll be the first one to try this mod. I'd have to acetone it, mask it off, prime it, then paint it a couple times with shiny black, and clear coat it.

I was just hoping some one else had done it first!!

Maybe I'll photoshop some trial pics.....

Actually, the covers are also Silver on the Silver 4Runner!

The Dorado Gold paint job is the only one without Silver bumper covers...

Yeah, but I was talking about making them match - that's why I said "except silver"

Actually, they don't match on the Silver 4Runners either. It's a slightly different shade/type of paint.

In any case, there was a picture a while back over at yotatech where a guy had painted them (all black IIRC). It was part of an extreme make-over, plus suspension mod project. His truck looked completely wicked. Sorry I can't give you much more of a pointer than that.

Along those same lines, I've seen some 4Runners (like Momo.75) with silver grill accents, similar to the lower bumper. I don't mean the chrome overlays, but more of a titanium metallic look. Was that an '03 only thing?

I am that idiot ...

Here is a link to the pic, I had everything lower painted out stock galactic grey with the silver inserts painted black, then went wheelin, trashed the ride pretty bad and decided to go black on the lower half and the hood scoop insert that I have made functional...hope this helps...peace.

Last time I checked the clearance under the front diff I was just over 15". That was with 315's when I still had my 17" konigs. I gained an inch of height just from swapping the 325/50R22's for the 37x13.5R22's, so I suppose I am around 16" in the front...I havent checked the rear in a while either. I do know that I measure 40.5" inches from the ground to the fender in the front with the 37's, and 42.5" in the rear.

Assuming stock is around 33 front and 35.5-36 rear, I suppose I am a total of 7 inches higher between the tires and lift. Knowing that ground clearance is 9" in stock form, 9+7 gives ya 16...so I bet that is pretty close to where I sit.

Thanks for the kind words...stay tuned.

Billy

Yep, and that is one reason I went with the gold...no need to try to paint the bumper and have to worry about how soon it's gonna peel off. Another reason is that it is different than all those silver ones out there...I like the silver, but enuf already!! I hear red will be back for 05.
