Which suspension lift and tires??

I'm really wanting to lift my ride now that I've gone on some trails and realized the potential of my ride with the proper suspension. (I'm not exactly into hardcore off-roading quite yet but I'll find myself there eventually ) I'm deciding right now between a 3" or 4" lift and was hoping to get some different points of view from experienced people. I'm pretty new to all this. I'm hoping to get the 4" lift just because I like the look of 4runners that I have seen with that size lift. Also I'm not sure about the size of tires/wheels. Would 285/75/R16 be too small for a 4" lift? And what brands for suspension lifts and tires do you recommend? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

3 inch is all your gonna be able to do with out getting into a bunch of other stuff.
I have 3inch ome heavy kit , I use 265/75/16 tire on stock wheel
285 gonna push to close to upper control arm when you air down for 4 wheelin... Just me ....Tire size has never been the reason I get stuck .. high center etc . pick a good line and take your time and wheel with experienced wheelers and you ll be amazed where you can go .

If you want 3" go with OME. If you want 3.5" go with Coilovers such as Sway-A-Way or Icon. Anything more than that will cause problems.

You can also look into a body lift on top of of the suspension lift such as OME and a 1" body lift.

285's will look good, but you will need wheel spacers or aftermarket UCA's to run them. Anything smaller will look tiny, and anything larger will need quite a bit of cutting including body mount chopping.

Thanks for the advice! Nice looking 4runner. How much did your cargo rack cost?

I really like the look of beefy tires.. How much do wheel spacers run? and is there any cons to using them? Thanks for the help.

Oh i see. I was thinking of getting one but didn't really know how much it was going to cost. Sounds like a reasonable amount for a great add on.

How much do most 3" lifts run? What can i expect for a fair deal? I've been looking around a bit but different places have different prices for different brands... Sorry I'm just needing a little guidance here.

check out Toyteclifts. They have some pretty decent prices. The best price if you are in a budget is probably going to be the OME kits. Toytec has it for $739.99.

But figure out which type of lift you want first and then shop around. Once you have decided on coilovers or springs like OME you might be able to find some on eBay or another site and save a little bit of $$

Thanks for the advice. I definitely need to keep looking around for more options to try and find what i need for the right price. Should I also go and ask different shops in my area for their advice?

You need to know what you are REALLY going to do with the runner .. Are you going to really 4 wheel alot or just light stuff once in a while or just want the look....A spacer lift would work for the look Etc .. I used the OME Heavy Kit because I 4 wheel ALOT and have bumpers winch etc. and it fits MY needs , A coil over kit can be adjusted as needed for as well .. OME kit shocks and springs about $700.00 plus install ( unles you do it ) and Front end alignment

I really want to get into wheeling and i know that if i just go with the body lift that i will regret it later and i want to just do it right the first time around. I'm almost sure that a 3 inch suspension lift is what i want to start with. I talked with a guy the other day from a place called central 4 wheel drive (i live in sacramento) and he said that a 3 inch revtek lift would cost around $750 and that includes install and tax. What do you think about revtek? and is that a fair price for that lift?
