2003 T4R Sport Edition 4WD
When I got it I suspected major sag as you can see in the before photos. According to my measurements it was sagging 2 inches in the front. And I had the iconic "Toyota lean".
I set out to do this cheaply as possible, but I knew what I wanted. I ordered bilstein 5100's, and ARB 2.5" rear coils with 500lbs static. Cost me about $650 shipped to my door.
Then I needed front coils, I'm not a huge fan of the 4th gen front coils and 4Runner coils in general. I went and searched Craigslist for days to find trd front coils from a Tacoma to use. These are great themselves give around 2 inches, they're much thicker than the stock Tacoma coils and much buffer and beefier! Slapped those on with a 1 inch lift from the 5100's and ended with positive 5 inches (2 of that was sag from oem height) giving me 3 inches in front. Out back simple process (except getting the old struts off that damn eyelet) took me 2 hours it was rusted so bad. After all gained about 3 from the back aswell.

Total $750 and 20 hours (only took this long because I'm new)

2 days of time
Get trd coils!
And do not use spacers! (No ground clearance increase from spacers)

Just saying hello, I am new here and purchased her last Thursday and lifted on Tuesday with

-Fox 2.0's
-OME rear springs
-camburg monoball upper control arms
-Fuel Warp 17"s
-BFG KO 2's in 285/70/17

I had multiple 3rd gens in high school and college and have mostly been into German Sports cars. (my 911 in the background)

Been hunting for a V8 4th gen 4x4 forever, they are so expensive and tough to find during covid.


Can't wait to absorb all the knowledge on this forum.

Loving all the tires with lift kits! One thing that I’m seeing little to non is how are some of y’all fitting the 295/70-17??

I originally wanted to do 285/70-17 or 75-17 Geolanders G003, and was confident in them, but then we’re told by many they are not looking too wide and go to 295. I would love to go that route just to have wider tires. But my concern is they will rub as soon as they are installed and won’t be able to drive my runner.

Who has 295s and no running while flexing??
What exactly had to be done to fit? I know I will need to do a BMC. Maybe some fender well pushing. Or should I just stick to 285s?

I have 3+ Dobinson lift, SPC UCA, SCS 17x8.5 wheels with -10 offset, and installing Lilbs steel front bumper.

Even with a 285/70 and all the lift stuff you posted, you will likely have rubbing somehwere. Most likely on the cab mount, calling for a cab mount chop. Front will also need as much caster dialed in as you can reasonably get to push the front tires as far forward as you can. Going to a larger tire, the problems will be more pronounced. Some people don't worry about the rubbing as long as it isn't limiting wheel travel/turning.

If you are still running the stock front bumper, you will likely have to do some plastic fenderwell cutting and even bumper cutting at the leading edges of the wheel well.

Going to a wider tire, you also need to make sure you aren't rubbing the UCA, even with the -10 offset. 1/4" to 1/2" clearance should be plenty tho.

Your rake looks level. Which OME rear and how much inch did you gain at the rear?

I need to look underneath to see which spring the shop used. I'll let you know, but this is a 3" lift.

Is there any guys who actually offroad that use cardone remanufactured CV's? Ideally I would go with cvj but they're pricy and not warrantied, so I think I might wait on those cause I just got my oem cv's rebooted when I installed my new lift then a dozen or so miles later I get a knocking/grinding and the only thing I can attribute it to is the CV.

Nicely Done! I just replaced stock suspension on an 05 w/ 300k on the clock. Will post photos shortly, however the fronts were so done, so i ended up with a 5" gain in the front.

Are you talking about the top spacers on the strut mounts?

Got the 05 a few weeks ago and knowing that it needed new shocks and tires, I started going through numerous threads on T4R, seeing different builds and photos. The vehicle will share daily duties with my trusty 2001 Taco, however its not soo roomy in the back for my daughter. Will it be used for off road? Maybe, for some camping and really mild trails. What i wanted was a really a mild/level lift, and i prefer not the stock rake, but very mild. It was more my vision to have the front fender gap almost level with the rear fender gap, a touch lower would have been ok. I didn't want to add preload unless I got the spring choice way off.

Components: Bilstein 5100's @ 0, OME UCA's, OME 883s, Whiteline lower control arm bushings, KYB Strut mount assemblies, Wheelers 3/8 and 1/4 top spacers, for the rear just the 5100's with stock springs. OEM TRD Wheels with 265/70's

Install notes: Rears shocks were easy enough to do at home, I also had all the parts so I took the time to assemble the front shocks/springs/strut mounts/top spacers before heading to my buddies shop. LCA: If I had to do it again, probably just buy OEM LCA. It ends up costing roughly the same if not more in labor - unless you are doing yourself. However, my buddy did say it was a real PITA to do the bushings.

RESULTS:
Lift from 300k suspension:
Overall front lift from wheel to fender 5.125 driver, 4.875 passenger.
Rear with just the shocks: ~3/8 to 1/2 (measured but didnt write down)

So as it sits its to both front fenders:38.5
Rear: 36.75 | 37 rear

I will put some miles on it, and will assume the front will settle with the new springs. I'll measure again later and decide if i need to get springs/lift for rear.

I've pretty much searched this entire site at this point, but does anyone have new photos/specs of your rig with 285/75/17's? I'm considering upgrading to this size and just want to see a few more photos and anecdotes of what you had to do to get them to fit.

Hey man I was in the same boat but I went ahead and pulled the trigger on 5 KO2's in this size, been waiting weeks for discount tire to get them in though cause they only had 2 in stock but once they're in I'll post things up. I have a dobinsons IMS lift with probably about 3.5in in the front and 4.5-5in in the rear, SPC UCA's, no front sway bar, extended travel rear with 2in bumpstop drops, super pro extended control arms, and most importantly a 1in body lift. I got my spare mounted up and used it for test fitting and cutting. I then have a bmc, cut away inner fender, hammered the pinch weld, trimmer the front bumper slightly and might have to cut the rear bumper a little. Probably enough to even fit 35s but I wanted to be able to go full stuff without rubbing things like crazy. This size is big enough though where you either gotta be willing to cut a lot or have the perfect setup, or just be a mall crawler and never flex things out ahahah. Pm if you want some photos of things so far, I'll start a build thread eventually.

Right on! I'd really love to see the final product. I'm already committed to getting a BMC and pinch weld mod, I already got a quote from a local fabricator that will bang out both. I also already have a 3/2 lift with SPC uppers, but was looking at Dobinsons to get an extra inch or two, and coincidentally was just looking at that Toytec 1" body lift. We're in the same boat, lol. Although I'm considering the Yokohama Geolandar MT's or Nitto Ridge Grapplers in that size. Keep us posted!
