cold air intake

I have a 2008 toyota 4-runner (urban Runner) i have been wanting to get a cold air intake, but when i had my 2006 tacoma i had a knn cold air intake. the reason why i got rid of my tacoma is because it started having engine problems. the dealer traced it to the cold air intake and it being an oil based filter. i was a thousand miles over my warranty and was going to cost 3500 to fix. when i bought my 4-runner they said not to put in any aftermarket parts unless its TRD and have them install it for the warranty to be current. i have been eyeing the TRD cold air intake and cat back exhaust. does anyone out there have any of these? and how do you like it? i have been searching on the web trying to find a decent price but im not having any luck does anyone know where to get cheap trd parts? Thanks

no such thing as cheap trd parts, check the forums clasiffieds, someone might have one for sale. the best price range ive seen is 325-360. your paying for the name, you can get other brands (AFE is dry , volant- which now can be bought with dry filter etc.),, somewhat cheaper than that, ( 260-300 if you search) even if they come with the WET filter , just make sure you buy a DRY filter to replace it. the oil from the wet is what fouls the MAF sensor & thats when you have problems, but ive never run into anyone who needed that costly a repair, most notice some problem (bad gas milage, stalling , rough running, etc.) long before anything serious happens. then just clean or replace the maf. by the way , the stock box is already a true CAI, some others are not. i myself bought the volant , installed a dry filter, sealed leaks & holes, then ran a rubber coupling out the widened fender hole, so now only the cooler air flows in. man, 3500 seems mighty high, & also, far as i know the trd unit is pretty much the same as afe.

I've had many so-called 'CAI', and the TRD (aFe is the same, they make the TRD one) is the best one I've owned so far. What I like about it compared to say the K&N CAI setup, is that the filter sits in the enclosed box, not open to the engine bay with just a dinky shield around it. So far I'm real impressed with it. My ass-dyno says it's definitely improved things (along with my long tubes). I've been off road in deep muck and river crossings and the box has stayed dried inside where if it were the K&N, it would've been annihilated by the mud and water. It did come with an oiled filter element, and I'm planning on getting a dry filter shortly down the road.

I ended up getting it off of eBay from Conicelli Toyota since they had a sale on it. It was just above $300 for it, which seems to be pretty cheap for it right now.

I believe there are a few on here that do. I believe BlairB has both on his '08 Sport

The cheapest that I've been able to find either of these is at ToyotaPartsPeople.com

They have the CAI and Exhaust for considerably less than the dealership and better priced then most other places I've found.

TRD Exhaust $375

TRD CAI $345

I've got the TRD CAI on my 2005 Sport, and I love it. There is no gain in gas mileage, but I also got slightly bigger tires when I got it so that could be the problem. Anyway the sound it makes when you get on the gas is awesome. I gun it a lot just to hear it. Nice throaty growl, and you can definitely feel the extra boost when it is at higher revs. I still have the wet filter on, and have had no problems what so ever. I've only had it on for about 10k miles, but the runner still runs smooth. I ordered mine from some toyota parts dealer out near, or in Seattle. it cost me $280 with shipping, i got a good deal on it.
