4Runner and which size Trailmanor?

Hi all,

I have a '07 v6 4wd limited with factory tow hitch. I realize it'll tow 5000lbs max.

The wife settle on a 6 sleeper trailmanor but we are in disagreements as to which size. I originally considered the 2720, of course she likes the larger. All are within 5000lbs but considering loaded I'm not sure I can stretch to the larger ones. Here are the models in consideration and their perspective dry weights.

Model 2720 27' (open) - sleeps 6 - 2742 lbs
Model 3023 30' (open) - sleeps 6 - 2915 lbs
Model 3124KB 31' (open) - sleeps 6 - 3090 lbs

Dry weights can be decieving and don't believe the #s a dealer tells you. You should count on adding 400lbs for options like a/c, water heater, propane etc. Take into consideration how much gear you take as well and how many people are in the T4R. You'll probably be closer to 4000lbs ready to camp.

As an example I have a 20ft hybrid (27' open)with a dry wt of 2800lbs. I went on the scales this week with it lightly loaded and tanks empty and it was 3820lbs.

I started towing it with my '03 V6 and it was ok but not great. Short trips would be fine and you must tow with it in 3rd gear. After a couple of trips on the highway and I knew it was time to upgrade. The problem wasn't the weight, it was the wind resistance and drag. Had a hard time holding 55-60mph and struggled on hills. (mind you I baby the truck and am not a fan of driving at 4000rpm all day)

I traded up for an '04 V8 and am glad I did. Lots more torque, an extra gear and airbags in back made all the difference in the world. tows like a dream and better mileage too.

If you are only short distance with minimal hwy then any would probably be ok. Just pack light, leave the tanks empty, and remember the longer the trailer the more potential for sway with the T4Rs short wheelbase.

You'll definately need a weight distributing hitch with sway control and a good brake controller. Just check the hitch reciever on your T4R and make sure you have the one that is certified for use with a wdh(mounts to the outside frame rails) The stock one for most T4Rs is the one that is only mounted to the cross member and using a wdh can twist it ruining the frame.

thank you jb for your response. I'm starting to think even with the smallest one I may need to pack light but getting my wife to understand that will be a chore in itself. It may be that I may have to move to a v8 also. Again thank you for your response.

Don't go by dry weight but total gross vehicle weight. If not listed, add payload to dry weight. On all your choices, you are over 4000 lbs to just under 5000.

Gotcha, thank you much ellmer. I think I may have swayed her for the 2720. We'll see.
