Had a new windshield put in

I had a new windshield installed yesterday by Safelite. The installer was pro. He did a great job in about an hour for $225. My first drive was like watching HDTV for the first time. I couldnt believe how clear the road was! Not a speck of dirt or grime makes such a difference. Too bad it only lasted 30 minutes

Anyway, I'm amazed that its so cheap to replace the glass on this truck. One of the cheapest fixes i've had.

OEM glass is like 1.2k because of a special hydrophobic coating. I went with Safelite as well. No issues after 3 months and 10k miles.

Yep - that's what they make Rain-x for, if one desires it. I've had mixed results personally...not sure why...but I have.

If you choose OEM glass you better watch them install it. My Dad took his 4RNR to a Toyota Dealership in Bozeman, MT to get a new windshield and the service rep at the desk said they charge $900+ but he could go down the street to a window place and get the same thing for under $200. He then told my Dad that if you pay us the $900 + we will just call the same glass place to come up and do the replacement on the lot.

So if you are paying for OEM glass, you may want to stick around and make sure that's what your actually getting.

My wife commented that our 08Toyota 4Runner had the clearest glass she ever had looked through. Meaning the Toyota OEM glass is really supper quality.
I am not a fan of Safelite. glass they installed glass on a rear door of my 98 Maxima and it shows distortion.

Thats what I also paid to replace my passenger window but in a different part of TX. Service runs pretty cheap here.
My Bosch wipers do good work.

That's an easy fix to detect though. Just look along the bottom corner of the glass, it should say Toyota if it's geniune oem.

I just had mine done as well by Safelite/Elite Auto glass. Took and hour and a half! Happy with the glass tho. My insurance cover all but $100 not bad but the total bill without insurance came to $345..? Wonder why so much? I have a 07 4Runner.

Maybe because you used insurance. Just a thought - they always ask if you intend to file a claim. And they are more than happy to do the paperwork for you.

So your saying because I used insurance they just tack on over $100 to the total knowing that the insurance will pay for it? Hmmm whatever, $100 to me

It's actually not that unheard of. I just ran a quote at safelite.com for zipcode 80010 and it came back for $202.95. Yes, I'm bored.

Of course, I have no idea where you live - only "Northern" Colorado. Maybe they tack on the administrative costs of filing the claim and waiting to collect the fee. Who knows? The only other thing I can possibly think of is you just drove up and didn't go through the net.

But, you are absolutely right, it's only $100 to you...and you may have a claim on file depending on how your state views windshield repairs.

Check seal after installation!

When I did a good inspection of my used 4Runner before installation I checked all the body panels and glass for replacement and paint overspray. I noticed the windshield had been replaced with one made in Mexico. The seal was seated properly on the top but not on the sides. I had a problem with my 4 wheel drive not engaging and it turned out to be a rusted relay behind the passenger side kick panel. I replaced the relay. After a hard rain the floor was wet. I think the leak is around the windshield. After sitting or driving in a hard rain check around all the carpet around the doors.

I use a place near my house and request higher quality PPG glass and I pay the same $100 through my insurance if they just use the cheaper house brand and I use it every other year or once a year if my windshield has any kind of pitting.
