4th Gen Rear Ended
Well it finally happen I was rear ended coming home from work this afternoon fortuantely no one was hurt except a fender and trailer hitch cover. Some chic was talking on her cell phone and she did not see slow down. Next thing I know her front fender is smacking my trailer hitch. Well needless to say her fender was trashed and stamped with my trailer hitch cover beside that no damaged, this reinforces my faith in the quality of Toyota.
I checked around the bumper and trailer hitch area but could not find any visable damage, I think she was going between 8-12mpg. For those that this have happen to in the pass is there anything else I should check( ie the body, gas tank) any ideas would be appreciated.

Glad you are safe and that it was just a minor fender bender. umm, it would be a good idea to make sure the frame is not bent at all.. other than that, not sure what else to check really..

i agree with alpha....check the frame since that's what the hitch is attached to. glad you didn't suffer much damage.

I would take it and have it checked out by a pro, you would be surprised by what you might miss seeing and then later on come to find out there was some damage.
better safe then sorry.
Glad your OK hope she s**t her pants so she won't drive and talk again.

Sorry to hear about your accident. At least no one was injured. I recommend that you get your truck checked out by a professional . She was obviously at fault. I think you should check underneath the truck to make sure nothing was damaged. I know someone who was just in a minor fender bender and they thought they had no damage. I look under their car and there is a dent in the bottom of the bumper. Just a little advice!! Did she at least get a ticket for driving and talking on the cell phone and careless driving?

I rear ended a truck with a hitch once. That thing sliced into my front end like I couldn't imagine. My car, total loss. The truck? No visible damage. Not sure if the guy had it checked out anywhere, but I definitely would if I were in your shoes.
BTW, drove right by your rig Friday AM near the 101 and Rampart. Pretty much figured it was your truck with the TRD SC decals. You just use those as bait or what?

WOW some of you guys certainly know how to over react, Biff I got rearended in the same way, tow hitch punched straight into the girls car and I did not even have a scratch, at the time the truck was covered in salt but the bumper felt as tight and sturdy, looked underneath and nothin was bent, infact I only heard her car other wise I did not feel a thing, her car was actually bleeding pretty bad and her front drivers side wheel fell off, it was like a little kid running into a linebacker
Good rule of thumb is in an accident you can't have a bent frame if the plastic bumpers are not even damaged, I know thats hard to conceive but it's true

Thanks EDGE, seems like everything is okay. The only thing I lost was my hitch cover oh well. Her car( seems like its always a her) had a square shape opening on the fender. I'll chuck it up to experience.(to steel a saying from another member)

Replace the hitch cover...
Instead of a new 10 cent plastic cover get a hitch mount step bumper. Search the forums. I think TranceKrayz got one for this very reason. It leaves a bigger mark than a 2x2" tube.

Funny you mention the rear bumper guard. I had a WAAG rear bumper guard for over one year, just removed it last month, looked to funny. Wouldn't have matter the girl would have still smacked my hitch.

Definitely have a shop look at it... I accidentally tapped a someone's car at an icy intersection a few winters ago and the damage looked minimal. I told him to bring me the repair bill and it turned out the impact bent the shock struts that were behind the bumper cover. The repairs to their car were just over $900.
