4th Gen Timing belt replacement good deal

Just had my timing belt changed @ 88K. Indie Also suggested I do the the water punp while he was in there. Great suggestion, as the coolant was weeping out around top gasket. Glad we caught it.
Out the door for $540.00 ...FN coolant $44.00 bucks

Did you have to replace the entire water pump or just the gasket? I thought that expensive coolant Toyota uses was supposed to prevent problems with the water pump, gaskets, and the rest of the cooling system.

I thought the 4.0 had a chain, not a belt? I seem to recall when shopping that was one of the "plus" points of the 4th gen over the 3.4 in the 3rd gen?

OP has a V8. You are right the V6 does have a chain.

mine's in the shop getting done as we speak. my cost is just about the same plus a little more for an oil change. they're going to inspect the coolant, pump, gaskets, hoses, etc to see if they need done. but they started working on it 4 hours ago and as of now, no phone calls.

edit: they're replacing my coolant and my serpentine belt as well. now i'm ready to go drive it somewhere!
