Exclamation 4Lo flashes and beeps constantly

Just bought a 08 sr5. When I went to put it in 4Lo the indicator started to flash(yellow) and it beeped constanly. I was stoped at the time. 4Hi engaged fine. I called the place where i got it and the sales rep. told me his Tocoma did the same thing and it was normal. I have my doubts... So is it normal or not?

Were you in Neutral or Park. you need to be stopped and in neutral to shift to 4Lo.

If you do that, you should just see 4LO blink a few times, then stay constantly on. Once it's constant, you are good to go.

(Or at least that's the way it is on the V8s)

It is not normal, it means 4lo is not engaged-

here's what you do:

with the truck in 4hi, come to a complete stop, shift into neutral, switch knob to 4lo, wait til light is lit (not flashing) then shift into drive, go have fun!!!

Not normal to stay on. It does that to tell you that you're doing it wrong or there is a problem with the system and 4lo is not engaged. It needs to be stopped, foot on the brake and placed in neutral to engage 4lo. The lights and beeping should stop when it is engaged. If not, try moving forward/back a bit to align the gears. If it continues after several attempts it is a problem with the system and you should take it back.
