Preface: I took the car to the dealer for an oil change and they said on of my CV boots had a rotted gasket and was slowly leaking grease (or whatever is in it) and should be replaced. I came back later to get it replaced and was told that it would be about a 2 hour procedure. I was in the waiting room for 45 minutes when the service rep came out and said his mechanic was able to find a quicker way to replace the gasket and only took them 35 minutes.
The service bill says RR CV boot clamp, does this means Right Rear?
Could the smell be coming from the CV boot grease leaking from a faulty repair hitting the exhaust?
Also, if this is the case, I have been noticing the smell intermittently for about two weeks and have put about 1500 miles on the car since leaving the dealer. If the CV boot was leaking for this long and I drove all those miles could permanent damage have been caused, and if so is the dealer liable?
Thanks for you wonderful future input
