Problem with Homelink again
I had an issue before trying to program and finally realized that it wasn't take the programming because the previous owner had it programmed. Anyways, after erasing the programming it worked fine. For whatever reason the other day it lost its programming! Just stopped working. So I erased it again and now it just won't take the new programming. What could be the problem?

I've noticed that mine won't program unless I've got the vehicle positioned just right. I have to pull right up to the garage opening and try programming and I can usually get it to accept the code. I know they also have different methods for programming the different types of Garage Door Opener code, which varies depending on the brand and age of the opener. New GDO's use Rolling Code for instance.

HomeLink; Home automation,Wireless control system, universal transceiver, RF control, Home security, smart home, vehicle to home, home automation, remote control lighting and home control
Are you programming it with the remote or the garage door opener?
I've read that if the remote has a low battery it could cause problems. Also, if you have a rolling code garage door opener, you have to program it with the remote first, then with the garage door opener (it took me a while to figure that one out).

Don't know if this is the problem or not, but I found out your opener may have a limit as to how many openers/homelinks it will work with. I found out from Genie that mine will only work with about a max of 6 openers. After 6 it seems like some devices are randomly deleted from opener memory. If you're like me with 3 or four cars with Homelink and a bunch of hand held’s or other wireless openers, that could be your problem. If so, you need to reset the opener to dump all the remotes and then sync only the openers (Homelink and/or handheld) that you really need.
There is a post I put up a year or so ago with more details. I'll see if I can locate and add to this one.

Mine was acting up a while ago and wouldn't let me open anything without being 2 feet in front of the door. I just left it alone and it resolved itself.
If you don't have rolling code, make sure the remote you're programming in has fresh batteries. If you do have rolling code, I've found it's best to park right under the garage receiver and program it from there. I've never had to use the remote to program a rolling-code homelink though.
jonz is correct. I have a Chamberlain and have a couple cars programmed with homelink and a bunch more with handhelds and it will randomly delete remotes when you reach the maximum. I just needed to reset it and only program the ones I needed.

Thanks for the responses guys.
Another quick question. When I'm pressing and releasing the button on my garage door opener, do I hold down the homelink button or press and release like I'm doing with the garage door opener?

I'm an account manager for Chamberlain and we actually manage all of the troubleshooting and customer service calls for HomeLink. I can tell you that Chamberlain/LiftMaster GDO's can retain 8 different remotes and or keypads. So, if you have one wireless keypad, you can have 7 other remotes actively working.
According to the manual on my 2007, if you are doing the programming method where you aim your existing GDO remote at the HomeLink, you press the buttons simultaneously and hold them both down until the light on the HL starts flashing rapidly. It should take about 20 secs. Hope this helps.

Not sure I understand the question....terminology on this subject is a real pain (for me anyway). You need to clarify ""Garage door opener". I'm not sure if you mean the actual lift for the door or a hand held remote. I think you mean the lift. Second, what operation are you performing? Are you clearing the memory in the opener/lift or are you programming the Homelink to work with the lift?

Resurrecting!!
I'm having some severe issues syncing my '07 with my Genie remote. I just installed the homelink console today in my SR5 and have been on it for over an hour with no luck. The problem is that I cannot get Homelink to learn my remote...aka I cannot get the "rapid light". I've tried holding the remote close and far from the homelink light and have ran out of ideas. I am holding both remote and homelink buttons until homelink light turns off. I've installed a new battery in my remote so that's not the issue either. If anyone has any advice I'm open for ideas.
Thanks

A couple years ago I had to replace my garage door opener. The original opener was a genie that was non-rolling code. For that type the homelink learned the code from the clicker. My new genie is the rolling code type. Which means the homelink does not learn the code frome the clicker. The genie opener learns the code from the homelink.
Get a ladder and go to the garage door opener (the motor opening the door). take the light cover off push the red button untill the LED flashes. Go to the car and push the button on the homelink that you want to assign. The LED should stop flashing.
I am paraphrasing this from memory. So I might have the LED flashing reversed. But proper instructions should be found in the car manual or the opener manual.

I'm having a little trouble too. Although I wasnt holding the "Training button" on the opener itself until it blink, I just gave it a quick push, the light came on and I tried to program the homelink in the truck. Whicj obciously wasnt working. When I get home I'll push the trainer button until it blinks and try again.

Thanks for the reply however I've tried that very sequence 4 or 5 times with the training button. Once the light starts blinking I jump down and start pushing the homelink 1 button up to 5 times (probably 2 second pushes each) and nothing happens. Is that what you do? Hit training button and push homelink until it syncs?

yes thats what I did. I had a similar problem when I was trying to set up the homelink in my Accord. I turned out I had exeeded the amount of remotes that could be programed to the opener. I had to erase all the remotes from the opener's memory, then start over.

I think I figured out my issue. Earlier this morning I was at Toyota for some warranty work on my console power outlet and spoke to the tech about my issue. He came back and said that I need to program the homelink with the main garage remote, not the backup basic remote that I've been using. I do have 2 other primary remotes with 3 buttons on them; internally they have a large circuit board that the small one does not have. We're assuming the lager circuit board contains the ability to get the remotes to connect to homelin. I'm going tonight to see if I can get it the other ones synced up.
