IMHO it would be hard to find something that I would want from 5-th generation…

It is sad, but 5-th generation was not a much of the progress… unless they will put 4.6 V8 in it…

The only thing I want is the Smart Key access.

I think 4th gen owners are too hung up on the lack of a V8 unless you really have to tow something........or drag race the V6 4Runner in the next lane.

From the Limited, I want the side mirrors, shift knob, and remote start (if they fit).

At this point, I hope not. I am not trying to be mean to the GenV or the GenV Owners/Lovers/Fanbois, but I checked it out, test drove it and it didn't do much for me. It didn't "wow" me or had any "have to have" Features. I am still not used to the design, but I am more comfortable with it now.

That said, first time GenIV came out in 03, I hated the looks, but look at me now. Toyota models I don't like at first grow on me over the course of the models production years. We'll see if that is the case with the GenV.

This has happened to me twice. I've had a '93, '00 and now '08 and each time they released a new generation I vowed to never get one

Exactly, I took the '10 Trail Edition and Limited for a spin. There's nothing in the 5th that makes me want out of my 4th and into a 5th. In fact there are many changes in the 5th that I don't like about it.

Same here, when the 4th gen came out, I hated it because of the round nose and the gray cladding on the SR5 and Sport Edition. Now, I like the gray cladding because it's rare. In late '04, I started to look into getting a 4Runner and throughout '05. The second gen Tacoma debut and I jumped on that. Once Toyota refreshed the 4th with the 2006 update I loved it. I was sold and bought a '06.

I knew there were engine options, but it sounds like the 4.6 V8 isn't available to all 4th and 5th gens? Was it by luck that I bought an 03 with the V8?

A 4.7 V8 was an option for all 03-09s.

The 10s only have the 4.0 V6. Toyota has a 4.6 V8 that would fit nicely, but its not an option.

I'd take the slide out tray in the cargo area over my double decker doohicky that I have never used. That and I kinda dig the beefier dash of the 5th. I have not driven one as I'm in love with my 06 Sport V8. I think the trail is the only way to go, the limited looks like a Pilot.

That's not entirely correct. If you drive the 5th Gen Trail the conering is fantastic...flat as a table with virtually no lean whatsoever. Whatever they did to perform that feat, such as the disconnect sway bars, makes the turning almost sports car like.
