Cruise control not able to resume after a complete stop

After I bought my 04 4runner I noticed that if I come to a complete stop after setting the cruise control, when I accelerate again and go above 35 mph i hit resume on my cruise control and it does not work. Its like it forgot what i set it at. Now if I just slow down and then hit resume it works just fine.. any one have any ideas on what could be the issue?

Sounds like default behavior to me.

If you exit the freeway with your cruise set at 70 and stop in town to go in a store and leave your truck running, come out and get going again and hit the resume button by accident you wouldn't want it to bring you back up to 70. I don't have my manual handy or I'd check and see if anything is in there on this.

But honestly, it sounds like idiot proofing.

my parents have a 08 4runner and it does not behave this way. I mean i am not stopped for long. Even in the city lets say i am driving at 45 and i have my cruise set.. i stop at a red light and i cannot resume to 45 even if i pass the threshold where cruise control should be able to resume, which i think is 35 mph.. i have had several different vehicles and none of them behaved that way. i know its not normal.

my 99 corolla is like that. Pisses me off to no end. My 06 4Runner, however, is not. It will resume after a complete stop. I figured it was something that they changed over the years. I wonder if it's something broken on your truck, or if the 04 just wasn't programmed that way yet. Either way, I would try to get an answer from the dealer. Of course, that's assuming you can find a dealer that knows anything about Toyotas

ya true i hate going to the dealer... i can already see it.. they will look at me like i am crazy.. i am hoping maybe someone else with an 04 can give me some info on the matter... maybe its a setting that can be changed in the computer. but ya its really annoying and i have not seen anything on the internet about it.

No issue. That's the way it's designed. Read the manual.
I didn't like it since day one and looked into modding it when they changed it in '05. Can't be changed because there were other ECU changes that year. I still would like to find a way...

Maybe you can switch out the ECU for a newer one? From a crashed T4R? I know Pam's Auto will have some. Do a search for them, their prices are quite reasonable, and if you contact them through their site, they will email you AND call you within a few days (might have even been the next day, but I can't remember for sure). I never ended up buying anything from them, but they seemed like good people...

Resume speed is lost if your vehicle speed goes below 25mph. IIRC, '07 MY retains the resume speed until the cruise control system is turned off.

My '05 remembers cruise speed after a full stop and will resume just fine.
