Pinstripe Removal

Just bought a 2005 4runner from a dealer in Nevada that had added pinstriping to the truck. Any idea on how to remove the pinstripes? Will any sign that the stripes were there remain? Any suggestions are appreciated.

hair dryer and some patience

If you have already taken delivery of the truck, you can use a hair dryer and a lot of patience to remove the pin stripes. Wash and wax the truck afterwards to remove any residue from the glue on the pin stripes.

If you have not taken delivery, see if the dealer will do it prior to delivery. Tell them you missed this detail and you do not want them on the car. Most of the time, this is a dealer added option anyway.

Hey, the dealer makes about $100 on those pinstripes that's why they put them on.

Pinstripe removal

Use the hair dryer or heat gun to remove the stipe, but it typically still leaves behind an adhesive strip. 3M makes some adhesive remover that I've used in the past to remove this.
Shouldn't be any signs of the stripe afterwards because it is a new car. The only time I've seen marks left were on older vehicles where the paint faded everywhere but behind the stripes.

im about to take mine off!

**edit** and 15 mins later im done! Didn't even use a heat source, just my nails! I found that it DEFINATLY helps if the car was just driven, i.e.: the hot motor heats up the front quarter panels and makes the glue a little easier to peal off, just be patient. LOOKS BETTER!

I finally got the nerve to pull my pin stripes off after 2 weeks of owning my rig. They disgusted me almost to the point of not buying it and choosing an FJ, but I finally took them off today. My T4R is white and I was a bit nervous it would show from the sun penetrating the paint, but it didn't at all. It makes such a huge difference.

Use a decal eraser. You can buy it at any local auto body supply store. That works the best and with minimal effort.

Use one of these...very easy

Use one of these, it's what it's made for and you'll be done in about 5 mins.

Sorry to necro this thread but there's literally not much else to do these days.

I have a 19' Pro in Voodoo Blue and noticed that there are black pinstripes along the length of the sides.

I've noticed them before but kinda just ignored them, but since reading this thread and a couple similar threads on other sites, I find them to be sticking out now and quite annoying.

Any other updated removal tips other than heat gun & patience? It's a decal, not enamel, so It'll likely be easy though I worry about potential clear coat damage.

Just be aware, after you remove the pinstripes, you'll lose the 1-3HP gain.
