Is the window lock enabled/depressed (switch on the driver's door)? Can you roll down the other windows?

I see you have a 2008. Any chance it is still under warranty? If so have the dealer look at this. My guess is not, hence the reason for the post.

Can you provide any more details? Did the switch just stop altogether one day? Do all the other power windows / sunroof, etc work correctly?

One very simple suggestion would be to disconnect your battery for a few minutes. This will clear / reset the system. After reconnecting the battery normalize the system. This might reset the rear window switch. Make sure to normalize the system after you reconnect.

If the above does not help you will need to do some diagnoses. First let me start by saying I have not reviewed the wire schematic for the 4th gen model but I did find some posts online that talk about relay replacement for this same issue on some of the older model 4runners. My guess is that the 4th gen would also have a relay in the system. So I would start there as these do go bad and are cheap to replace, about $15 dollars or so. I would doubt it would be the actual dash switch itself.

I think the Hayes repair manual has the wire schematics which you can use to locate the relay(s). Once you locate the relay you can test them with your wire meter to see if they are sending a current.

Here is a post that may help. The fix was for an older model 4runner but the wire semantic shows a date of 2006 so it may be close or very similar to what your 08 has:

ToyotaOffRoad.com - 4runner rear window relay fix

Hope this helps. I have an 08 also, so I you have trouble finding the wire schematic or can’t find the relay(s) post back and I will take a look at my 4runner and see if I can find them.
