Side Airbags?

How do I tell if my 4Runner is equipped with side airbags? Like a lot of people here I bought my 4Runner used and am not sure whether it has them or not.

The reason I'm curious now is because I was going to order some custom seat covers and they want to know (as do I of course...)

Look to the left of the steering on the dash. Next to the center diff lock switch will be a switch labeled RSCA off. The other "give away" is on the A-pillar it'll say SRS in an oval shaped, embossed, emblem.

I searched for my 07 based on side-airbags. The side airbags were standard for '08 through current.

also there would be a sticker on the front seats around your shoulder towards the door side (driver and passenger).

That's one of my criteria for the car I will buy...

Makes sense. Thanks for the information. My wife's IS350 has the SRS emblem you speak of on the A-pillar. As for the RSCA off button, I've always wondered what that is. What does that acronym stand for?

I don't think my 4Runner has side airbags, but at least I know now. When I bought it I went to the dealership parts department and tried to get a duplicate of the window sticker and the weren't able to do that, but they did print off something similar. It said I did have side airbags, which confused me cause I though there would have been something inside the truck to tell me they were there.

RSCA = Rollover-Sensing Side Curtain Airbag
The side curtain airbags are designed to deploy if the car rolls over. It's pretty sensitive and the airbags could deploy in the process of controlled off-roading maneuvers that cause the vehicle to tilt to one side. If you plan to do wild off-road stuff like that, it's best to turn off the side airbags.
