Queston about area in front of skid plates

Hi guys - I have an 07 that I bought used. I changed the oil for the first time today and that went fine, but it did raise a question. When I open the hood and look down at the area in front of the radiator, I see a big opening all the way to the floor, maybe 12 inches and the full width of the vehicle. Seems odd to me that with all the skid plates protecting beefy steel and cast iron, there is no protection for the radiator from the bottom. Am I missing a part?? It seems not but I wanted to check to be sure. Thanks everyone.

I installed a fumoto valve and it fit fine, next oil change will be easy, and the filter location is nice.

No, though it does look very exposed. There is protection directly below it but the skid doesn't extend in front of it at all. It turns out to be an area very unlikely to get hit. First off it's pretty high up. You'd have to shove your bumper up, over and across a rock narrower than the wheels or tow loops and pointed enough not to rest on the skid. As far as vulnerable points go, it's not at or near the top of the list.

Very nice. Too bad they are not for sale. I have seen others in aluminum or silver, I would prefer black, I am thinking of buying the Toyota part and painting it black.

Chaz and a couple of other folks have fabbed plates. TC4Rnr's is awesome so is Chaz's. His adds some 'beef' to the look. http://www.toyota-4runner.org/486825-post9.html

As an alternative to black paint I like spray-on truck bed liner for this type of application. Dupli-color makes one that all the chain parts stores carry.
