Popping/click sounds from Consoles on 4th gen
I took my runner in to get this issue checked out. The tech said he could hear nothing but I took the service rider on a little ride. He definitely heard the popping and clicking noise coming from the console. He reproduced it with certain manipulation. The noise comes from somewhere underneath the console and happens swaying left and right, coming to a stop, rolling over a dip, accelerating. The service rider also tested another 4th gen and had the same issue. Nonetheless, they said there is nothing they could do! Apparently this is an issue with all 4th gen. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks fellas.

It's probably the seams between various plastic pieces of the dash rubbing together.
Can be difficult to determine where the noise is coming from, but if you can locate it (i.e. if I press on this panel the noise stops), I would try to get some spray silicone on any potential areas that could squeak/click/pop- meaning clips, screws, and seams. You could also try some painters tape along the edge of a piece where it won't be visible.

Thanks for the reply sheik. Have you noticed it on yours? Apparently alot of 4th gen's are making the noise, coming from underneath the console. It is easy to over"hear" but try driving without the radio on for a few minutes. I have driven with everything out of the console compartment.

this gets to me all the time! I hate it! Let me know if you figure anything out. All these little noises drive me crazy and my gf things im neurotic! My solution has just been to crank the radio and forget about it!
I also have an awful noise at high speeds coming from my front passenger wheel well or running boards. I think it might be those plastic flaps "protecting" things from road debris. Why didnt they make those the right size? There's so much extra flap that the high speeds causes it to make a lot of noise. Weird that its only on the passenger front side tho!
And then recently, I get a similar noise from the rear passenger side of the sunroof but only when its tilted up, not closed or open. I think that has to do with the rail as other posts have said but wasnt convinced since I only hear it in one position.

I too noticed it, thought it was the seatbelt hitting the console and moving it, if it something else I'd like to know, irks the shit outta me.

Just spoke with the service rider at toyota and he said that they would have to take apart the console and inspect all parts separately. I wonder if its just cheap parts they used underneath or plastic etc. It does not make sense to me why all of their 4th gen's have this issue. They should really address issue and look into it.

Yes I have the same issue and am slowly chasing down the culprits. Every dash is going to fit together slightly different and so it requires trial and error to locate the sound and solve it.
My first issue appeared after I removed the lower part of the console on the drivers side to install Sirius. Putting pressure on that lower panel eliminated the sound, so what I did was drop it down and I hit all the areas where I thought the panel could make contact with some spray silicone. For now this has been enough to stop the noise.
As I said, your situation can and probably will be different than mine and will take some tracking down. Put pressure in different spots in the area you think the noise is coming from. If it stops or changes as a result you know you are in the correct location and can address it from there.

I had a noise like this several years ago and drove myself crazy chasing it down. It turned out to be the seat track. Search this and you will find a lot of information on it. It is a common issue.

I just got double whammied in one week...first this one reared its head within the center console... stupid popping sound on left/right turns and braking or accelerating. Not 100% of the time, but enough to bug the shiote out of me... Same exact time, the infamous seat squeak/cracking showed up too. Both seemed to have suddenly been brought on with the really hot weather here in TX. They are driving me nuts!! Going to take it to the dealer in a week or so and see what they will/won't do to help.

so annoying it drove a member to "abandon ship"
Yeah, I noticed "ticks & clicks". Sounds like the seat tracks. My console SEEMS to be quiet......every now and again a squeek comes from the passenger door...... hey, I CAN LIVE WITH THAT!!
I know a member had so much trouble with his clicking seat tracks that he eventually got rid of his runner. He just couldn't take it anymore. All things being equal (and I have owned many cars/SUVs), the T4R is an excellent vehicle (SUV or whatever). This truck "is allowed" to do little stuff like this.
