Spidertrax Wheel spacer questions
Just wondering if an allignment is needed after installing spidertrax wheel spacers? Also, will I have to trim the wheel wells if I was to buy these? I'm running stock size tires 265/65/17 and have fj springs/struts with a toytec 1/2" topout spacer up front and rear fj shocks with factory air bags in the rear. I installed the fj setup about two weeks ago and got an allignment done right afterwards. (sooo happy with the new setup and even more happy to get rid of Xreas.) Now I want the spidertrax to finish it off. I will eventually up the size of tires but have fairly new tread on there now so I'll wait till I need new ones. I don't mind having to trim but hoping someone might know if I'll have to do so with the setup I have plus wheel spacers. I would rather not have to trim until I upgrade my tires cause I don't want to do it twice. Going on a road trip soon and would love to have some spacers!! Any help or comments would be appreciated. Thanks

You shouldn't need to do any trimming with the stock size tires and spidertrax. Only after upsizing (+1) will you start to run into rubbing from what I've read. If you're looking for information about rubbing or some pictures of how much a plus size tire rubs, only after spidertrax are installed, check out this site: Toyota 4Runner Wheel Spacers

while were on the subject, does anyone know if they will prematurely wear the wheel bearings out? Id like to get them to widen the stance out, but i was worried about bearing life...Ive heard varied answers, yes, no, theyre hub centric so they wont wear them out, etc, etc. Sorry to rob the thread but i thought it was relevant.

thanks for the link martini, at least i now know how to trim if needed. I think I'm just going to buy the spidertrax and get it over with. Can't wait!!! I'm sure that doing the allignment after the suspension was done I should be fine.

x2. Although there are many who have been running these for years and have had no issues.

Anyone have any issues/failures with these? I've known some folks back in the 80's that used spacers and had them fail. What is the reliability/durability?

Quick question for you.
Why were you happy to get rid of xreas?

From what I remember the old spacers were made with a different metal-steel I think- and were prone to breakage/damage. Spidertrax Spacers are made with Aluminum- 6061T6 anodized aluminum wheel spacers. Mine should be delievered today so I hope to install today but ITS HOT in NY. It's so dam hot the Devil went back to hell for a cooling off!

SpiderTRAX Pix
Just to help everyone out, check these pictures out--I just added them on last weekend-- The last two are the pictures with the tires thrown back on--- the pictures don't do a lot of justice, but as the owner of your mud trucker you'll see the subtle difference. Personally, I think the car rides a bit better, by that I mean a little bit smoother; besides, gives you the opportunity to rotate your tires, and the truck has a better looking stance---lol.
Enjoy.
Michael

No need to do an alignment after Spiders. I have exact same setup, FJ's, 1/2" and adapters. I have scrapped maybe 3 times in 8 months, usually backing up over a bump, so no biggie, i have moved my liners forward, just haven't trimmed yet. I will have to trim some when tires get upgraded, but no problem, takes 20 mins for all of it.
As far as having problems with adapters/spacer these are Hub Centric, so they are much more reliable, wont move and should never cause problems. Some worry about bearings etc. I wouldnt worry about that either, If we break it down more, bigger tires are a stress as well.
Fix it how you want and drive it. These vehicles are tanks and can take the abuse if you give it to them.

Is there any chance the wheels will rub on the upper wheel-well buddy if the suspension is fully compressed while off-roading?

Spidertrax does state that an alignment is necessary after installation.

No alignment necessary.
Old spacers in the 80's were milled steel and did not have the lug locking technology we have today. Today's spacers are 6061 billet aluminum.
These should not wear out your bearings faster than usual. Hub-centric is only necessary due to the wheels to reduce vibration.
I ran Spidertrax on my previous 4WD and All-Pros on my 4Runner.

My friend got brand new tires (stock size) a couple weeks after SpiderTraxx and had them do an alignment. They didn't charge him anything because it was still perfect.
He did, however rub with SpiderTraxx and 265/65-17 BFG A/T's. I would think any less boxy tire wouldn't be an issue though. A quick adjustment on the front inner fender well and he's as happy as a clam.
