usually from ONLINE toyota dealers.

they aint like stuff you'd find on amazon.

one cool thing is toyota has a tech info online where you can download PDF files of the manuals. but there are TONS of individual files to download.,

you pay like $20 for like a 2-3 day subscription fees.

these are mainly for repair shops where they maintain a yearly subscriptions.

funny story. when i got my subaru STi, a bulletin board started a project that wrote a script to download the whole PDF files.

it ended like over 150 separate files...

http://techinfo.toyota.com/

for my set, i bought it from a texas toyota dealer. ended up like over $200.

well worth it. came in 5 volumes.

Is this what you're looking for: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...spagename=WDVW

Or search on EBay for "2004 4runner manual" if the link above is gone. If there's not one there this week, wait a few days and search again. There's also a CD version of the manual on that search for $20.

Or, you can PM me and I'll sell you my copy of both the physical manuals (identical to the one above) plus the CD for $130, including shipping.

please dont buy those $20 cd versions from ebay...

they are scans or like the subaru example i gave above, some dude completely ripped "us" off by using the script and started to sell them...

toyota never sells them on a CD for $20...

It depends on who you get them from and whether you trust that person. If there are multiple sellers on EBay, take a look at their feedback to see if there's any negative feedback. Of course, you should really be doing this on anything you buy.

well technically, the product is illegal.

so no matter how much you trust the person...

that's all that i'm saying. it's up to your own morals and conscience...

Well, you can't really make a blanket statement like that, can you? Technically WHAT product is illegal? Taking the PDFs from an online source, dumping them onto CDs, and selling them on EBay? Yes, I would agree that would be illegal. But, while you can feel that this is what everyone on EBay is doing, you can't know it, can you? Unless you personally purchase the thing, you cannot.

I don't know whether the current ones on EBay are legal or not. And neither do you.

Full Disclosure: I do not sell products via EBay. I have one extra hard copy set and one CD that I don't need. The CD is an original CD.

No Official CD exist as far as I know. There are only Printed Manuals and they're $$$$$, over $400 for set. Go to http://techinfo.toyota.com/ and for $10 you can access any page of that $$$ manual legaly. You can save or print anything and everything for 24 hours.

Oh gosh. This is silly. Go to EBay. Search on "Toyota". See what comes up. No, TOYOTA is probably not selling anything that comes up, but they're probably all Toyota parts. And they're probably all selling for significantly less than your friendly neighborhood Toyota dealer. How is that possible? Are they all illeagal?

Search on "Toyota 4Runner Manual". All of the hard-copy factory service manuals are probably the real deal. Don't you dare pay $400 for those. If the seller took the time to copy and bind some 1000 pages, it would end up costing money.

Search on "2004 4Runner Manual" and you'll narrow it down to your model truck. As of today, I see one hard-copy that appear to be the real service manuals for $120 and one CD that says it's the electronic copy. The hard-copy appears real. I can't vouch for the CD. It may be a download of all the files. It may be from Toyota. I dunno. I'm not saying that every CD you see is real or a fake. I'm saying that you cannot make a blanket statement for certain either way without checking it out for yourself. Even if the guy there is selling a copy, you cannot say what another guy will be selling tomorrow.

[I took a look at they CD guy's feedback. It appears as though that particular CD might be a copy based on the feedback of others. Although he does get a pretty high feedback rating (above 98%), maybe no one really cares if they're getting a copy. Being that he's been around for a while and has sold a few thousand copies, it's curious he has lasted this long. Maybe EBay doesn't care as long as they get their cut?]

At any rate, the hard-copy manuals are real and easier to use. Grab one of those.

cd's are cheap but hard to use since you can't search. not all versions comes w/ the index so do keep that in mind.

just get the service manuals on ebay for 100 bucks. I got mine for 90 something so i'm happy (vol 1 and 2)

since you have the v6, you'll want the supplemental vol 3 and 4 as well (not sure which one has the v6 motor info but just get em all to be safe)

good luck

Thanx for all the replies. It has been awhile since I've last bought something on ebay. I'm sure there's many of you who've bought the FSM from ebay. I guess I'll do the same. Any additional suggestions anyone may have would be appreciated (i.e.- complete list of FSM for the 4R? whether there's an '03 & '04 edition?). I don't want to buy a FSM that's not right for my vehicle. Thx n adv!

There are different editions of the printed manual for the different years. The 2003 and 2004 are very similar and most of the manual is likely the same. However, you should still get the same year as your truck.

All volumes cover both the V6 (1GR-FE) and V8 (2UZ-FE). The available manuals are:

Volume 1: Preparation, Specifications, Diagnostics
Volume 2: Diagnostics, Engine, Chasis, Body, Electrical, Maintenance
Volume ?: Automatic Transaxle Repair Manual
Volume ?: Automatic Transmission Repair Manual
Volume ?: Electrical Wiring Diagram
Volume ?: New Car Features

I've only seen the first two manuals available as hard-copy. You could just wait until you actually need them for something before purchase. At that point, maybe spend $10 on the Toyota site to see if that will get you by (and download as much as you can while you're there). If you still need the hard-copy, it will likely still be avaiable.
