I'd like to install some USB power ports in my 05 Runner for the phone,
camera, etc. I was hoping that someone made a module that I could
install that would do voltage conversions and power the USB ports but
I haven't been able to find one. Anyone seen something like this?
I could install 12V outlets and use 12V-USB adapters but I'd like
a cleaner solution and would like to put one or two in the console.
I have seen them at Wal-mart. They are like $20 for a which plug right into the 12v plug and has a few usb ports and a few 12v ports also. Take a look in the Auto department. This one is http://www.amazon.com/BESTEK-Lighter...0793347&sr=8-4

I've seen things like this before. What I was hoping for was ports that
I could flush mount to the console. Something like the USB ports that
come standard in the newer Runners.

You could take something existing and cut out one of the blanks and then pull power from the 12V outlet at the back. You could go to an electronics store and wire it up yourself and mount them where you want, but that would be even more work. I am not aware of anything plug and play that matches factory for the 4th gens. Maybe somone has a part number or something for the 5th gens that could be easily dropped in?

You can get it without the cover so that it is just a circular outlet, the company that makes it has several cover/mounting options. I just used the cover so that I could cover it when not in use since it is in view. The outlet sells for about $1.25 if I remember correctly, the cover was $0.43 & another cover I got was $0.25. Shipping was the most expensive thing but altogether I paid about $7 for everything. I will try to find the link to the company who makes it.
