Bump Stops (Daystar 2.5/1.5)

I just installed the newest (easy/topout) Daystar 2.5/1.5 spacer lift on my 4R and I was reading a bit on this forum about the Daystar lift and came across the mentioning of Bump Stops on some older threads. I didn't receive any "extension" bump stops with my Daystar package and am wondering if this is something I'll need to buy seperate? If so, where do I find them? Maybe, they're not needed with the new style? I probably worry too much.

This sounds like the setup that I might be interested in for my truck. May I ask where you purchased the Daystar setup?

Certainly! I bought it from Amazon.com. It was $141.55 + NYS sales tax + Free Shipping. It's still on sale at that same price. Here's a direct link:

Amazon.com: Daystar KT09115BK Comfort Ride 2.5" Strut and Coil Spring Spacer Kit: Gateway

There's quite a few good write ups on how to install it yourself too. I found the following two to be a GREAT help! I highly recommend using (borrow or rent) a spring compressor and a ball joint separator. I sure wish I would've! Here are the links to the write ups:

Thanks for the response Donny. My mechanic is going to be installing the FJ springs and shocks and ball joints, so it makes a lot of sense to do this now. I know I would be angry at myself later for not doing this mod when it's all apart. I'm not sure if this kit is compatible considering I am swapping out the XREAS for FJ suspension.

You don't need X-REAS to install it. It's just a spacer / body lift that goes on top of the springs. It gives you a leveled out look and gives room for larger tires to be installed. I've read on many threads that people do both the Daystar and FJ suspension together. I would've, but, for now I want to keep my X-REAS, well, that, and I haven't seen any FJ suspensions for sale on the cheap!
Goodluck on your build! Post lots of pics!

Just did the install, also received no bump stops. It would concern me a bit if I took my truck offroad on anything other than an unpaved road.

The bumpstops can be replaced without pulling anything else out, though, so if I can find some extended ones I may put them in later.

Let me know if you find some that fit, then I'll order some too.

Typically spacer kits do not come with any sort of bump stop extension. You do not really need to mess with your bumpstops with a spacer lift unless you are 1) running much bigger tires and need to limit your travel (mainly an issue in the rear) 2) have different travel shocks or 3) you are doing some really high speed wheeling.

Two options are Timbrens (which I have) and Wheelers Superbump Bump stops.

SUPERBUMP Bumpstops from Wheeler's Off-Road

I keep seeing all these posts talking about the ball joint separators, but you don't need them. A couple good whacks on the side of the control arm and they pop right out. Save money, use a hammer. It won't hurt anything.

The drivers side must've taken about 1,000 hits w/full swings. No joke. This step alone cost me just over an hour - had to rest after swinging over and over. The thing wouldn't budge! I even lifted the lil boot on top up a bit and sprayed some lubricant in there in hopes it'd leak down and loosen it up. I hammered the heck out of that thing leaving a bunch of scuff marks, ah well, next time I'm definitely borrowing or renting some separators!

I'm sorry. 2 whacks with a four pound hammer and both sides popped right out. Used to do it all the time when I worked at an auto salvage yard tearing cars down and never had any problems.

Figures. I'm always the "lucky" one when it comes to these kind of things!

p.s. It's been real crappy out, but the next nice day we get I'm waxing and posting new pix w/the lift, Japanese fuel door, new tires, and the door sill enhancements! I've received plenty of compliments so far!
