2005 SR5 4Runner: Deal?

Hello,

Just in searching for a bit, I see there are quite a few questions asking if a 4Runner for sale is a good idea, so I'm sure the community is worn out... but I have to ask since I have no experience with Toyotas personally.

I'm moving to Colorado in a few months from Maryland, looking for a 4x4 with modest towing capabilities. The 4Runner is high on my list.

I've found a 2005 SR5 4x4 with the following at a local dealership:

Mileage 99,122
Model # 4RUNNER SR5 4X4
Year 2005
Color TITANIUM METALLIC
Engine 6 CYL.4.0 LITER
Transmission AUTOMATIC

Some items from the listing:
FOG LAMPS (standard on SR5?)
FOLDING REAR SEATS
POWER DOOR LOCKS
MOON ROOF/SUN ROOF
POWER DRIVERS SEAT (This is false.. seat was definitely manual)
TRAILER TOWING HITCH
TRAILER WIRING

Car Fax looked clean, but at 99,000 miles they're asking $16,500. Seems high to me, but again I don't know a whole lot about Toyota's beyond my research recently for a 4x4.

Here's a shot:

What do you think?
Common things to look for on an '05 4Runner?
I'd like to get the vehicle on a lift and inspect it for rust and maybe check the CV joints as I remember a friend having issues with his CV's on his Land Cruiser. Is this something to check on the 4Runner?
Common TSB's (I'll check the pinned thread!)
Upgrades / recommended maintenance at 100,000?

Thanks very much for your help... hope to join your community!

That is in line- pricewise. You can probably drop them to 15K. Look for the following at a dealership:

One-owner local trade
Clean Carfax
No or minimal rust underneath- frame, exhaust, bolts, etc.
No varnish on dipstick
No varnish underneath oil-filler cap
Smooth shifting and no leaks under car
Also look at the interior carefully- am abused/neglected interior can mean a neglected engine/transmission.

I live in Colorado (just west of Denver) and recently bought my 4Runner. I love it and it is well-suited to this area.

I have the same model and specs. You can get it for maybe 1K cheaper if you look around. Just change the oil and go by the maint schedule in the owners manual. On the V6 just ensure previous maint was followed and at 100K they suggest changing the antifreeze. I would use the long life. Some of the items you need you should get the dealer spec cause of better quality.
