Aquapel for windshields

Guys,
Have you tried Aquapel? Just got a new windshield installed and read where this stuff is supposed to be alot better than Rain X.

I have it on there now and I dont think it is even close to Rain-X. I will not be using it again.

Really? What are the differences to you?

So it's not any better then RainX, that sucks.
I find RainX to only last about 2 days or so in heavy rain. Then you have to reapply it. I wish it would last longer than that.

How many coats of RainX did you put on? I Usually do 3 coats, and it lasts about 3 months depending on the weather. If you only do one (i.e. apply it, let it glaze over, and then wipe/buff), it won't last very long. If you apply it, let it glaze over, reapply it, let it glaze again, then apply a 3rd coat and buff off, it will last much longer. I'll use a half bottle in one application, but it lasts half the rainy season, so I think it's a fair trade.

I live in WA, so I've been putting it on every other day, but I'll try using more at one time and see if that helps. I sure hope it does, I like how it works at first but disappointed how quickly it goes away.

I do a few coats of Rain-x also and I get a few good months out of it;winter I apply another coat if we;ve been getting alot of snow.

I pour rain-x into the windshield reservoir and apply each time I use the mist feature.

I know how you feel! I live just south of you, and I get used to RainX-ing my windshield every fall. I think you'll be find that a few coats of it will make a big difference. Also, I'm assuming you clean your windshield before you put it on, but that also makes a big difference. Windex or SimpleGreen it until it's perfectly clean, let it dry, and go to town.

Definitely agree with you here! The more times that the windshield freezes over (to the point of needing an ice scraper), the faster it wears out as well.

I know they make a reservoir additive that works for this purpose, but I'm not sold on it really. The greasy film left behind by the RainX needs to be worked into the glass, so I'm not sure if the windshield sprayer (that has additives cleaning and therefore removing the RainX already on the glass) stuff works that well.
Also, when you RainX your windshield, take one paper towel that's soggy with RainX, and wipe your wiper blades with it. The silicone on the blades gets really dirty, and that's what causes premature failure. You'd be amazed how much longer they'll last, and how much more effective they'll be if you wipe them off regularly. And using that paper towel soaked with RainX will both clean them, and make your RainX on the windshield last a little longer!

I prefer replacing my blades frequently especially before inspection time. The dealer in NY pings you on 1/4" tears at the edges and then makes you purchase them at their price.

Constant application, even with rain-x wiper fluid is key. I've applied rain-x as per the instructions, but find it's time consuming and just not as good as if it's in the reservoir.

I usually use the mix for the windshield washer fluid. Works well for me with no issues. I personally don't have time to be wiping the other type onto the glass.

The glass of the OEM windshield already has a hydrophobic coating.

Doubling that with the use of Rain-X or equivalent will result in some sever streaking.

Been there done that - trust me.

RainX always lasted longer for me. The Aquapel lasted all of 1 rain, then it was gone. I had better results using the RainX windshield washer solution!

I use aquapel on both of my cars, hasn't let me down yet. It's head and shoulders above rain-x but you have to know what you're doing when applying it, it's a pain to get it right. My buddy had to go to training to apply it, and he taught me the correct way to apply

You must have done something wrong, I applied aquapel to my garage queen like 4 or 5 years ago and it's still there and working. I reapply to my 4Runner (DD) every 6 months or so
