Your system is behaving exactly as it's designed to. The shop either doesn't understand how your system works and they're grasping at staws or they know exactly how it works and they're milking you for as much as they can. Not much you can do at this point but close your wallet and ask for your keys back.

I'm also having the same problem. I have a 2009 4Runner and while on the temperature setting "LO", it is very cold and everything is in working order. When I raise the temperature to 65 degrees(which is the next setting up in degree temp) it blows warm air. I am in Hawaii and there is no way in the world that my thermostat is basing the temperature on the outside weather temperature or cabin space temperature. Something is definitely wrong. Any help would be much appreciated!

It blows hot and cold. It switches between the two to regulate the inside temp of your desired range. What u guys are experiencing is normal

I understand what youre saying with the thermostat and temp setting. But I can assure you that when my outside temperature is 85 degrees here in Hawaii and my cabin temperature is well over that considering my car has been in the mall parking lot for hours, making the temp inside my vehicle well above 85, that it should not be blowing hot air when i set it to 66 degrees.

I have the same issue with my 08. Its 98 degrees today and the only way to get cold air is to set it on low. Put it on 65 and warm border line hot air comes out of the vents, definitely not normal. I have 42k on the clock and no ext. Warranty or I would take it to the stealership.

There's something wrong with his AC system. Don't know what's causing it to do that, but I do know as long as the AC button is turned "ON", it should blow cold air, especially when you set the temp at 66 or so, which is way lower than the ambient temp and cabin temp.

Or did you not push the "AC" button on?

Odinwiski, you are right. It should be blowing cold air when it's set to 66 degrees. The AC button is on and illuminated but still blows warm/borderline hot air. I didnt want to bring it in to Toyota for service but I guess it's my last option. Just don't have time to tinker with it.

Anyone else having the same problem with your A/C's?

I went to turn my AC on last week and got no cold air......at all. No matter what temperature I set it at, only warm air. I drive it later that day and it worked great, nice cold air. Then it stopped again. Not sure we are having the same problem, but I keep you posted anyway. I figure any input would be helpful. I am under warranty and have an appt. with stealership next week.

Quick thing to verify, is does your compressor actually cycle on and off? Turn the A/C on full blast, Max cold and check the engine bay for a clicking noise as the compressor engages and disengages.

Just went through this!

I just went through this after installing a brand new head unit. As it turns out the interior temp sensor for the a/c unit was unplugged. It is located by your right knee on the drivers side. If you look at the plastic plate under the steering wheel you will see an area that has slits in the plastic. The sensor is right behind that piece of plastic. Simply plug in the sensor or if it has gone bad it may need to be replaced. That is my experience and i had the same exact situation occur.

This is exactly what I have mentioned on the first page of this thread:
"""""""I have seeing same issue as you described when temperature sensor inside of the truck (on lower part of the dash) is unplugged, has bad connection or not functional..
I would check that first."""""""""""

I just checked mine and I don't have any wires or harness connected to the temp sensor nor do I see a connector that would go there. My guess is that when I had my Viper remote start installed in January that they disconnected and spliced these wires. Had a similar issue in the winter with the heat pumping blazing hot air but did not put two and two together until now. Thanks.

progress4m,

You were right. That was the problem.,

rtuck1,

This problem started as soon as I left the car audio store after installing a dvd double din unit. I looked at the where you described the "slits" in the plastic and sure enough, there was my problem. There is the sensor there, which was unplugged and also there is a hose attached to it that was also unplugged. Plugged them both back in and now Im in tip top shape again! Saved an AXX load of money fixing it myself. The dealer wouldve charged me to replace the part plus labor.

Thanks guys!

Dam car audio guys.....
