TPMS reset button?

Yesterday, my TPMS light came on, and as I was near a Les Schwab Tire Center, I stopped and had the tires checked--spare was low-only a couple of lbs off spec.
Anyway, The guy said "hit the reset button and the monitor would go out". We looked, and we could not find any button. He said it was down by the gas flap and hood release. Wasn't there.

Just curious--Mine is an '09. Is this something Toyota changed?, or was he confusing the my T4R with something else. He also said the Toyota was the only vehicle with a TPMS sensor in the spare. The light went out after a few seconds when started up, so all is well.

I have never heard of a reset button for the tire sensor. The tire guy may have been thinking about the reset for the maintenance light, possibly.

There's no TPMS reset button that I'm aware of.

A TPMS light due to low pressure, especially in the spare, is very common as the temperatures cool off. You'll typically lose about 1 PSI for every 10 degree F temperature drop. A tire inflated to 32 PSI in the summer with an ambient temp of 90 degress will be at about 27 PSI when it's 40 degrees F.

Many people that don't pay close attention to their tire pressure post this issue every fall.

The question was about the "reset" button. Thanks for the answer about the reset button. The issue was not about the TPMS coming on. I know what caused it, and that it was the spare tire and the onset of colder weather here in the Central Valley.

there is no reset button. if all your tires are up to spec psi, there will be no light. if there still is, then you have a bad sensor or sensor communication issue.

I just checked the manual. The tire tech may have stated to hit the reset button because other Toyota models do have a reset button.. the 4Runner does not.

Per the FSM, there are two causes for a solid light
1. Low tire pressure
2. TPMS ECU is poorly connected.

If all your tires are properly inflated, then drop the kick panel under the glove box and check the connector to the light brown box.

Once all tires are set to correct pressure then drive for up to 10 mins over 20mph, which should get the light to turn out. if not then there is a sensor problem and then go to dealer. i replaced 2 on mine at my shop and our scanner will not communicate with that part of the comp. no reset button ande most new cars do not have the older gms did.

Rook: The answer to my question. That is all I wanted to know. Other Toyota models have a button, but the 4Runner does not. Thank you
My tires are fine, the sensor works fine, and the light is out--it reset itself one the power was on. All is well.

Other models have a button, but people mistakenly believe it's a reset button. That's not what it is - instead, it's a way to change the pressure level at which the light comes on. The 4Runner is factory set at 27 psi, and can't change it. On other models, you can set the tires to the pressure you want the light to come on, and then press and hold the button.

Unfortunately, because people think it's a reset button, eventually the TPMS will be come useless because they keep lowering the set point every time they use the button to make the light go away.

On all Toyota models, the light will go off by itself as long as all monitored tires (sometimes including the spare, depending on model/year) are above the set pressure. A flashing light would indicate a system malfunction and register an OBD trouble code, so of course the problem would need to be resolved to make the light turn off.

You are absolutely correct! The 2006 Land Cruiser had a Tire Pressure Warning Reset Switch to the left and slight below the steering column. It reset the warning threshold pressure that activates the dashboard warning light. See page 13 on this link from the Toyota Tech Center Library for more info.

Oops! My bad. This thread came up in the search results for a TPMS issue I'm having. I quickly looked at the dates and thought I was responding to a post from today, not one from 2 years ago. LOL!
