2WD SR5 vs 4WD SR5 weight/mpg

Hey guys,

I currently own 05' 2WD V6 and thinking of getting 05+ 4WD V6.

I usually drive in-town with no serious off-roading (for now). A couple of members have suggested, I stick with 2WD and not go for 4WD if I dont need one. They said "I'll be just carrying extra hardware which I wont use".

In making my decision, I have a couple of questions:

What is the weight difference between 2WD SR5 and 4WD SR5 (everything else equal)
What is difference in mpg in 2WD SR5 and 4WD SR5 if they're both identical?

I am inclined to think, that I wouldn't mind carrying extra hardware, even if I normally dont use it. I prefer to have it available in case its needed than needing it when its not there.

What ya'll thoughts on this?

YOu probably lost just as much going with the unsprung weight of those BFG's as you would with the weight of the 4wd.

Find a Car
2wd sticker economy is 16-20, 4wd is 15-19

Looks like 4wd adds about 200lbs.

My thoughts in the least.

You will never need that 4wd until you do not have it. My Tundra, is the very first non 4x4 truck/suv Ive owned and of coarse, the biggest blizzard in GA in 10 years happens and I get snowed in for 3 days.

I just purchased a 4x4 2008 4R just in time for this funky weather hit DFW,never regret the 4wd,to me a few mpg is worth the peace of mind

traded in a 2009 silverado 2wd that got stuck during the funky weather.

best move for me
