with the key, do the open and hold for 10+ then close for 10+, do it like 5x, then go in the car and do it with the switch with key in on, just start the truck so u have some extra power. do it for 5x and see if this solves ur problem, otherwise replace the fuses for the ecu, there should be a couple of them.

I was doing the cycling with the key and then inside switch with the car running. All of a sudden the window stopped and quit moving up. Then I did the drivers door window and then it would work with the key. Tried it again and it would stop and not move at all. If I turn the car on and off, I can start the cycle again?

I pulled the fuses in the drivers side indoor fuse block, same issues.

Ideas?

I had a ground wire break in the hinge on my Land Cruiser, lots of weird things happen. Just a possibility.

Anybody have an update on this? I have an 05 4Runner and the rear door won't open unless the key us on. Rear defrosters only work when I cycle the window with the cockpit controls and the key fob window controls don't work.

I took everything apart and cleaned things up with no resolve. I have not reset the ECU *yet* or tried the key trick in the rear hatch *yet*.

Thanks!

It seems even the little issues are turning into a few hundred dollars for repair. The latest 4 months ago was a $600 charcoal cannister, which was tripping my check engine light. Both in that case and with this tailgate issue, the truck still runs great...but these expensive annoyance repairs are killing me. I still love the truck though
These costly repairs seem to be common these days,as we find many small shops won't even take on these problems with the newer 4Runners. This forces us to go to our Dealers Service Dept.s, and no repair is under around $600 at our dealers service Dept.s.
A shop guy was telling me a few years ago,it might be a good idea to buy a real insurance policy to cover repaire's,not one of them worthless extended warranty policies but a real insurance policy.

Force you to go to the dealer? Maybe under gunpoint!
These days the amount of exclusive info a dealer has is very little, information is free, tools are cheap and parts are cheaper on the internet
than in person.
.
.
I dont see how the driving an older vehicle scenario works out financially if you are going to pay for inflated parts prices and labor.

Many people driving older 4Runners do not have the tools and don't have the know how to do their own repairs. So they are forced to use their dealers service Dept.s.
These forums like this one do a lot in helping many, but there is just so much that can be done.
I have read where people changing their own oil,end up draining the trans. by mistake.

Several have reported the lift gate window acting strange when their battery is weak. If all else fails, replace your battery

So I disconnected the wires to the mechanism To clean the connections and what not.... Put it all back together and now the window won't go down with the keyhole. But the key fob only cracks the window a little bit. The switch in the dash works fine.... No rear wiper or defroster issues. Any ideas?

Make sure to check the wiring harness between where it exits the vehicle and enters the lift gate, some have reported the harness detiorates in this area.

I will check there but everything worked before I disconnected the wires... Put it together and now it doesn't work with fob/key
