Anyone shear gears in your Rack and pinion?
I was off-roading a little bit the other day and hit a rock with my left front tire, not very hard but hit one. As I got onto the highway I noticed my steering wheel was slightly off center, so I stopped and took off both front tires and inspected the A arms and other steering components, didn't notice anything that stood out to me, so I thought maybe it just knocked off the alignment. Then when I went to take it in for an alignment, they said I was lucky I was able to drive it to the shop. They told me that the gears in my rack and pinion steering where sheered and when they put it op the rack and checked the steering they wanted the wheel to go left and it wouldn't do anything, they turned to the right and barley moved.
Now the shop wants $2000.00 for a new rack and pinion and alignment, labor included. Is this a rip off or average cost? My baby's still there waiting for my decision.... any advise would be much appreciated.
