Will 2005 FJC Springs Work?

Hey everyone, I have a quick question: Although I have to lift my '05 T4R any more than stock, I am sick of the sloppy front end.

I have a local that has a set of 04/05 FJ cruiser springs (plus the 2 rear shocks and 1 front strut) for $200.

From what I have read on the thread, the FJ setups from 07-09 are preferred. Will the 04/05 setup work and do you all think the price is good (obviously, I won't be able to do anything with just 1 front strut, but that's the package).

Responses appreciated, as seller is waiting on me. Thanks.

Interesting Find

Toyota FJ Cruiser - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The FJ Cruiser wasn't available in 04/05. It first came to market as a 2007 model and that's where the 2007-2009 reference comes in. I'd be skeptical about what the seller is offering.

RP: 38 3/8
FP: 37

I went up 3.5" on FD side and 3 7/8" on FP from stock, but 1/2 to 3/4" of that was from tires, the old tires were worn and not nearly as aggressive tread wise as these.
I think since the driver side settled lower it loosened up the passenger suspension a bit?... so the gap has increased between pass. and driver side some.

Wow that is SPOT ON with what mine measures. 1.5" inch diff front to back for the most part. Thank you. I am looking at future changes and deciding where I want to go. Thanks

What is the p/n for the lower RH ball joint boot? I of course ripped mine while installing FJ shocks and springs. I can't find the number anywhere. Also, what's your favorite place to order OEM parts?

On the left side I ended up just using the 4Runner's bottle jack to lower the lower control arm instead of prying against the ball joint and this worked great.

Edit: Finally found it, 43345-69025. The going rate for OEM is $21 but I found an aftermarket version on Amazon for $14 that I will try: http://www.amazon.com/Febest-Toyota-.../dp/B00C6MXZBQ

I did the same thing only on both sides. I'm surprised more folks haven't done this using the pry method.
The OEM boots were on factory back order so I went the Amazon route, they should be here today or tomorrow and I'll let you know how they look.

I installed the Febest boots today, not a super easy job in the driveway. Boots and clamps look as good as OEM. Grease pack seems inadequate so I used my own grease.

I've been looking for FJ Cruiser TT or TRD coil springs front and rear. Have not found any used, but did find some at O'Reilly's for front and rear by Moog for about $175 for both sets. Any opinions on Moog products?

T4R SR5 2WD 6 Cyl

I finally swapped out the stock springs for FJ springs and oh my, what a welcome difference! My T4R is an '05 Sr5, 2WD V6. I kept the same shocks which I installed a couple of years ago, but are still in very good shape. They are KYB GS-2's. Here's my before and after measurements (to the nearest 0.5"):

Before
Front: 32.5"
Rear: 35"

After:
Front: 35"
Rear: 35.5"

It's only been 3 days since I swapped them & I'm hoping it will settle a little more but even if it doesn't I'm quite happy with the results and love the way the truck sits level now - I always hated that raked look.

A few days ago I swapped out the stock springs and shocks on my Hilux Surf (twin brother of 4runner if you didn't know) for FJ TT offroad package with 20K miles on them.

FJ front coils look practically identical to those of Hilux Surf, however FJ rear springs are a bit beefier and higher with 1 extra coil.

Seems that the front is lifted more compared to the rear but there's still some rake which I like as it looks more aggressive to me.

Would autozone replacement springs work?

2008 Sport v6 4WD mod

So we nixed the x-reas replacement due to cost and durability. The rear shocks started leaking at 72k. Plan on keeping the Trk for a long time and do not want to replace again. We only off road 3-4 times a year and nothing extreme.

So I gather I need the FJ springs, and looks like some Bilstein 5100s and as short of a spacer as possible. Found a suspension shop to do the job if I bring the parts.

My question is how much in fuel economy will I loose ? Do I really need the FJ coils and what is the difference if I don't replace the coils?
What else do I need to know or is there other advice?

Great info on here btw.
Thank you

After debating to attempt this myself or not, I found a shop here in Denver to do the suspension work for 290. It was also time for new tires so I pulled the trigger this weekend. I also added 1.5 spidetrax spacers, 265,70,17 Cooper AT3, a DIY paint job on my wheels, and some plasti dip on the emblems and grill.
Like everyone else i mulled over where to set my bilsiten 5100s, choosing the .85 for my 2005 V6 4wd. I think this was the right call. The 1.75 setting would have made truck almost perfectly level but it would have bro rake with any load in the back. Thanks for all the great info on this thread. Loving the new ride!!

I forgot to take measurements before but here is where she sits with the new tires and a full tank of gas
