So, I'm not trying to spoil the party...
But I have a couple of serious questions about the FJ coil swap with shock upgrades & lifts discussed in this thread...
First let me say that I get many of the reasons why a coil swap and lift are good.
------ Benefits ---------
• I get that a lift gives you better ground clearance...
• and there are real benefits from that, especially for off-road...,
• and that a good lift can give you more wheel travel,
• which is also good for off road...
• and you ride higher, so you can sit high on your perch...
• and see better and further in traffic...
• and look down on all the boring stock trucks and lowly cars
• and you can run bigger tires too!!!
• and your truck is now customized...
• so it looks tricked-out and keeewel...
• and you can hold your (ahem!)
package as you drive...
• and no one can see what you're doing.
I get that, and I'm not trying to take any of that away from anyone.
--------- QUESTIONS ---------
So, here are my questions:...
Q1: Will an FJ coil swap & shock change with a lift decrease the on road or high way ride quality?
Q2: What about the impact to on-road handling? (Better, worse, no change)
Q3: Noise?
Q4: Fuel Milage?
Q5: Towing? (I pull a 4000 lb boat / trailer combo locally and occasionally 1200 miles round-trip on the highway).
Usually (but not always)... nothing comes for free.
So I'm genuinely asking
what are the down sides to a mild lift from the mods discussed in this thread?
I'd like to determine if this type of swap would be right for an on-road, highway & city driving, wanna-be, poser like myself
-- not by looking at just the benefits,
but by also understanding the downsides and drawbacks -- other than time and money...
and I'd be thankful if someone can help me understand the drawbacks and tradeoffs.
