According to the Bilstein web site the 5100 perches are spaced 5/8" or .625" apart. So using the OE coils bottom #1 = 0 lift, #2=.625 lift, #3= 1.25" lift and #4=1.85 lift.

Assuming a .75 - 1.0" lift from the FJ coil alone + the #3 perch should yield around 2 to 2.25" of lift up front.

In the rear the FJ coils yield an average of .5" of lift which means i'd need to add a 1/2 spacer or possibly cut down a 1" spacer to 3/4 to get 1 to 1.25"s of lift in the rear. Or just buy some 895E coils and be done with it.

So does this sound right?
Bilstein 5100 shock perches are 0", .85", 1.75" and 2.5" of lift. FJ coils give 1/2 - 1" of lift depending on 2wd, 4wd and V6 or V8. Also depends on how much your stock coils are sagging as to how much lift you'll actually see. I got over an inch of lift in the rear with fj coils because my stock springs were toast!

Very helpful information! With that in mind, here is my plan:

Current setup: Passenger front: 35, Passenger rear: 37
Driver front: 34.5, Driver rear: 36

I am definitely of adding one inch to both fronts via the bilsteins, then a 1/4 front spacer (I have one lying around anyway from Wheelers) on top of the driver side, which should put them both to 36.

Then for the rear, a .5 inch spacer on the passenger side to get it to 37.5, and a 1.5 spacer on the driver to get it 37.5.

This whole production should* give me 1.5 inch rake and correct the driver lean. Or I could just throw a 1 inch spacer on both rears rather than try and mess with the lean as I didn't notice until I measured.

That said, once you figure out the front, you can order a custom sized spacer for the rear from Cornfed. I've ordered a few from them in custom sizes for different setups I've ran.

On second thought...

Scratch that. I'm going to try a 1.5 spacer on the driver side only- that should yield a 1 inch gain on the driver side and .5 on the passenger as discussed here:

I did this and it worked perfectly. I have another one if you want to buy it. I keep forgetting to sell it. (Daystar 1.5" rear spacer)

FJs and 5100s all around here. They in a daystar 1.5 spacer on the rear driver and seems to be level all around. Fronts set at 0.85 setting and seems to be 35 front 37 rear with 265 DTs (I know that's not the proper way to measure, I just did a quick walk around yesterday after throwing the spacer on).

I picked up a set of tacoma TRD offroad (progressive) springs last week and will try those out when I get time to swap.

I too have an extra daystar spacer amd OME rear trim packer for sale if anyone needs one. Will throw them up in the for sale section soon.

Just Curious

I contacted a local body shop/ mechanic shop, that I have been doing business with for a long time and see them as very honest about their work. Now the price is higher than most places but the quality is second to none.

I am looking to put on the FJ coils with 5100's, I'm not mechanically capable to install it myself, I don't have the tools, (spring compressor, air guns, etc.) to handle the install myself, nor do I have any record of mechanical work, other than the changing of tires, oil, and other small feats that everyone knows how to do.

My question is, how long does this install take? My mechanic said it was a 6 hour process and would cost $500 alone just for the install? Is that a decent price?

Seems legit to me. I think I could do it faster but I've done it 5 or 6 times now. I don't have a lift or air tools. Price seems good to me for the amount of work.

really @t-man , you think so? i guess i am a bad judge of timing, but i would think 3 hours, at most 4 for the work.

granted, like t-man, i have worked on all kinds of tacoma and 4runner front ends over the years. i did my fronts with the no spring compressor method in under 1.5hrs on the front and the rear was done in under an hour?

too bad your not local to denver, i would do the job for $200 in my driveway!! and im a professional...

I was figuring them looking hours up in a book and not really working on our platforms before. The first time I did mine it took me like 8 hours, but I had some issues and frozen parts to break loose. Lol. Now, oh Ya I could crank that right out! I'm actually going to be doing new shocks and coils Friday night for the offroad event on Saturday. I figure about an hour per side.

Are people still finding FJ springs to be readily available or are more people moving towards the Moog springs? Are people still having fitment issues with the moog springs?

I have an 06 4Runner, i need up to 2009 FJ springs or has it turned out that the later years work too?

I read most of this thread but the early part is a few years old now... and my XReas is getting bad...

Thanks for all help!
Chris

From what I understand any year will fit. I found mine at a junk yard and talked them down to $50 for the pair with the center cone bumpstops thingy.

I've got the 5100's, FJ rears and a 1.5 spacer for the rear. Cannot find a damn set of FJ fronts....any suitable replacement? As asked above, what are the fitment issues with the MOOG replacements?
Thanks in advance.

More of us are using Tacoma TRD springs for the front now since the supply is much greater and you can find low mileage parts.

fitment issues were for the FJ rear moog springs from what i read.

also, the up to 09 rule only applied to the shocks (the lower bushing on teh front and the rear diameter of the shaft were different sizes) if you are only using the springs and going with 4runner shocks, any year will fit. i think guys were saying make sure to get 4x4 springs, but i dont know if that matters or if they are truly different.
