You can run any coils you like if the look and ride is to your satisfaction. For example, I have 2015 Tacoma TRD Offroad coils on the front and FJ coils on the rear. See the suspension post linked in my sig to see a side-by-side pic of the FJ rear springs vs. stock and you'll see why many people swap them out.
Personally, I think many people overlook the need to change out the stock springs period regardless of what they're replaced with. They're made of stout metal, but the youngest 4th gen is 11 years old now and likely has 100+K miles. So no matter how stout, I think it's safe to assume that metal which has hauled around a 4500 lb. SUV for that long and that far probably isn't performing as well as it once did. People always go on about shocks, and they're important, but springs are just as important if not more so.
