I hate necrobumping especially when I haven’t been on here in years, but I had a question. What are the downsides to just pulling the ABS fuses? My abs goes off literally whenever I touch the brake.

Try it and see what happens. Should basically just disable the ABS pump, but you'll still have normal hydraulic brakes - old school.

Back in the early days, I've heard of people putting in switches to disable ABS on cars for offroad and winter driving purposes - a locked wheel was better for digging in rather than spinning over loose surfaces. Hell, I used to have an old Audi that had a factory ABS defeat switch right in the middle of the dash (along with the locking diffs switch ).

So I took out both fuses and about 2 miles down the road a super loud, high pitched alarm started going off constantly. I pulled over and replaced the 40 amp fuse but left the 120 out and the alarm went away. My 4runner stops on a dime now, I’m so happy to have my brakes back.

Actually, I go further than that. Grew up with my family having several. My first that I actually drove was an 1986 5000CS Quattro Turbo. I grabbed the picture from the web to highlight the example. I miss that car.

I picked up a 4th gen 4runner sport and the previous owner told me he installed a switch that would kill everything for four wheel drive only (I'm just rephrasing a two year old conversation). I now have lights VSC/Check engine lights on all the time. I think I might have hit the switch without actually turning the engine off. Will this cause the lights to stay on? With the switch off I get the parking brake light and switch it on and it goes away, so I think the switch is still working.

Can pick up a OBD reader and go from there.

I've read about gas caps being an issue, but I really think I did this one myself...

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

There is a thread somewhere in this forum that states tapping into the red wire off the master cylinder to add a switch to disable traction control in 4WD.

I can’t find it at the moment unless it’s just further down in this thread.
