steering wheel wobble

I have an 03 sport and when I hit 60mph the steering wheel starts wobbling really bad. It has a little over 90,000 miles on it. Has anyone ever had this or know what it is, and how to fix??

Also when the A/C is on it blows cold but after a while the A/C light will just start flashing and won't really blow as cold anymore. Any thoughts???

Wobble is like that is probably an unbalanced tire. Maybe you lost a wheel weight?

No idea on the a/c though...

I haven't had the steering vibration on the 4Runner, but I used to have it on the M3. It would have a slight vibration any time I used to go over 60.

did you recently hit a big pothole, or a curb, or something with your wheels? there's a chance you bent one of them...

Another one could be warped rotors, although, unless they are REALLY warped, you would only feel vibrations under braking (even slight braking at high speeds)...

I say go get your wheels balanced first. see if that helps. If not look at maybe getting an alignment done.

On the M3, balancing didnt help, alignment didnt help, it ended up being the bushings i believe. Im sure more members will chime in. Just my 02.

OP here

Thanks for the advice. I'll go tomorrow and get them balanced to see if it works.

Also I forgot to add in the original post, when I am driving normally and start breaking, the 4runner wants to go left. I have to hold the steering wheel while I break so I don't go left into the other lane. Could that be due to balancing or alignment??

I think You should really get your brakes checked. It could be some issue with your right brake not working properly which may be one reason as your vehicle pulling left when braking. But before getting the brakes checked, go check the tire pressure in all your tires. It may or may not also be your tire pressure being uneven in the front tires. A significant difference in the tire pressure may cause the vehicle to pull in one direction when braking.

Steering Wheel jiggle/wobble

1996 4Runner - 2WD 3.4 Liter v6 - 253K miles
--------------------------------------------
Mine has noticeable wobble/jiggle at 65mph and up. Otherwise not. I just had new tires put on, balanced, aligned, the whole works. still does it. The shop specifically checked for any causes. Nothing. I took it to a different shop this weekend and had them check it out. They put it through the works and could not find anything wrong. They said they even tested it on the highway, but found nothing wrong. I have perforated rotors so they don't heat and warp. There is no braking jiggle, it's just the steering and I can feel it. It is certainly in the driver's side front wheel. Someone mentioned an ABS control ring once??? ring any bells? I want to fix it, but I don't know how.

Experienced a similar issue in an '04 Tacoma. If you're offroading, make sure you get underneath and really powerwash any mud you might have kicked up. Removing a hidden bit of mud can sometimes make a world of difference.

Try the easy solutions first!
